Cozy Apartment In Straumsgrend

No breakfast was included in the price and none offered. I don't remember the description on the Booking.com website so I don't wish to be unfair but ...the address given to us by email took us outside a closed and locked door to a garage! After several phone calls forth and back with some intermediate Booking agent??? who claimed to represent the proprietor we were told that we had been given the "old address" - what a relief, we are not going to sleep in the garage - and waited for someone to come and rescue us. The elderly lady, the propriator, who eventually met us with the keys and took us to the "correct address" was charming and very welcoming. The location is on a hill overlooking the bay, very beautiful view but not a conveniat location if you are not driving. The nearest bus stop or overground metro seemed to be a long walk away, no shops in close proximity. We had our car so didn't have such a problem but don't forget to buy a loaf of bread, or milk, etc., after a day's sightseeing on your way back. Also, the property is described as two bedrooms, and it is, but the second bedroom is not inside the main flat but a separate little building-room with no facilities, across the yard, which could be a problem for a family with small children, but also for two adults if the one sleeping in the separate bedroom wants to use the toilet, maybe even more than once, during the night . Which also means that you can't lock the entrance to the main flat/building at night.

Other than what I mentioned above - which didn't affect us, being two adults each used to sleeping in his private bedroom, the flat was excellent in every other respect. Having said that, we stayed there during a spell of wonderful sunny and warm weather. It could be a nightmare in a freezing cold and wet Norwegian winter, especially if you are not familiar with Norwegian weather.

The property owner was very amicable and communicative, and the facilities very much met all of our expectations. However, perhaps the best part of our stay was the gorgeous view of the nearby lake every cool morning.

We felt that it was somewhat difficult to locate the property as there wasn’t much signage to go off of. Also, keep in mind that you must bring your own bedding and towels, or else, you will have to pay a fee.
