Charming stone house, but serious damp/mold and cleanliness issues

Positives • Cute, small stone house with character, converted from an old olive mill. • Renovation adds rustic charm and the setting has potential.

Negatives • Renovation appears decades old and poorly maintained; many elements feel worn and dated, see the kettle photo as an example. • Significant mold/damp problem: strong humidity and musty smell, visible mold in several areas; not suitable if you have asthma, allergies, are pregnant, or have any health concerns. • Very uncomfortable beds; springs are felt through the mattress and need replacing. • Cleanliness below expectations; multiple areas were not properly cleaned (see attached photos). • A dehumidifier was placed in the bedroom, suggesting an ongoing moisture issue that hasn’t been resolved.

Off the beaten path

This was not what I had expected, but we fell in love with it. We felt totally immersed in wirh the locals. The small town, watching people bike to the bakery to get the bread each day. Sitting with locals having coffee in the morning. A rental car is a must! There was a visitors center about 3 doors down. They will help you with all questions from tours to restaurants. We went to a winery, an olive oil factory, took a cooking class (located at the entrance to this building), were unable to do the produce tour bec the grapes were being harvested.

Wonderful place to relax and unwind for a few days.

The property was full of character and in a beautiful setting, the perfect place to relax and unwind. We loved sitting in the courtyard reading under the shade of the olive trees. Lola and Nikos were great hosts. There was fresh fruit in the property and Lola brought us fresh eggs. She was super helpful in advising us of places to visit and things to do. We hope to visit again one day.

Initially we were disappointed that we weren’t staying in the property we thought we’d booked which was situated in the town. We soon realised that we preferred the beautiful setting of the farm and that the walk into town was only about 5 minutes.

My sister and friend were invited to a wedding in Vamos and enjoyed staying here close to it.

I loved the stone construction and the farmlike surroundings. Each house was named for a herb (Salvia was ours.) Fresh fruit and coffee was provided for breakfast, but no tea.

I have a SUV car and the road to the houses was narrow with stone walls and thorny bushes on both sides. My car was scratched a lot. There was no parking just in front of our house, so I had to drag my suitcase down a gravel walkway. We got lost a lot in the area because GPS didn't translate landmarks well into English.

Lola was a lovely host. The property was beautiful, surrounded by trees and plants that Lola let us use for tea. Overall a magical experience.

Excellent host and perfect location. Cleaning and fresh towels mid-week an unexpected bonus.

Small points only! Mattress quite thin, not very comfortable, could be improved. A better light above bathroom mirror would be a great help.

Nice old

Great old building with traditional touches - they let us check in early and leave late! Left fruits for us.

The bathroom downstairs could have been a bit cleaner and the basement of the apartment was very humid (although the humidifier provided helped)

we were not accommodated in the house I thought I had booked

We were accommodated in "Vamos Fabrica Farm", 1km outside of the village. It is a nice hamlet of 5-6 houses immersed in the green countryside of Vamos. Our house (Diktamos) was recently restructured and pleasant to stay in. The Fabrica owners are very friendly and helpful.

I had intended to book "Fabrica" in the centre of Vamos, hoping we would be in walking distance from bars (for breakfast), restaurants and shops. Instead, we were accommodated in a house in "Vamos Fabrica Farm", at 1km from the city centre. While not far, it was necessary to take to car to go to the restaurants in the centre. This was a big disappointment. Let it be clear that the location of "Fabrica", indicated on the map of Booking and on Google Maps, is not correct. Also, the house we were accommodated in did not correspond with the pictures of "Fabrica" shown on Booking. It is unclear if Booking tricked me into booking another house than the one I had initially picked, or if the Fabrica owners intentionally misrepresent the house on Booking. Irrespective of this location issue, the positive aspects I described above ("What did you like?) are truthful.

An excellent place to stay in Crete and to enjoy your holidays.

The house was beautifully located within the farm garden of the hosts with olive trees and herbs. Quite and relaxing atmosphere. Very good advice by the landlady for touristic activities, a charming village not destroyed by too much tourism, and an overwhelming hospitality of the host were highlights of our stay. Several beautiful beaches are nearby (less than 10 km). An excellent place to stay in Crete and to enjoy your holidays.

Pleasant

The style of the building is very nice giving you the feeling that you are living in previous decades.

Purely from personal perspective we didn't enjoy our stay there as we didn't find it comfortable at all. - The location, Vamos is not a great village to stay in you can just visit it for a few hours and it is more than enough. - The house inside even if renovated it has still very old elements, the bathroom is not comfortable fleeding water when taking a bath and the bed was very uncomfortable (not to talk about the mattress). - The wardrobe had a terrible smell that we couldn't use it to put our clothes in. - We paid the full amount the first minutes in the office even before having a look in the house which I regret having accepted it, otherwise I would have said that we want to leave before staying a single night paying the relevant fee as needed. - The proportion of money value-facilities was not a good deal. Again I would like to emphasize that if someone is interested only in living in a house from a different century and doesn't care about comfort then it's totally fine. In our case we wanted the main stuff like bathroom and bed to be of a normal standard of comfortness.

Posto incredibile in una città incredibile, Vamos. L'appartamento, una struttura dall'architettura tradizionale, è tranquillo, a due passi dal centro. Bellissimo il terrazzo, piacevole soprattutto la sera. Ci siamo trovati molto bene, e i proprietari sono stati gentilissimi. Assolutamente consigliato.

Charmant séjour à Vamos

Ancienne maison rénovée dans le vieux quartier du village de Vamos. Gîte sur trois étages au cachet rustique et authentique. Des cadeaux à l'arrivée ( raki et huile ). Le père du propriétaire nous a accompagnées jusqu'au lieu d'hébergement avec gentillesse et origan ! Place de parking devant le gîte.

Equipement de vaisselle sommaire. Terrasse un peu petite ( gîte1). Le ménage ( sol) n'était pas fait de façon impeccable.

Die Unterkunft (Haus Nr.1 ) war wunderschön renoviert mit viel Liebe zum Detail. Wir haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt. Die Lage ist großartig – ruhig, aber mit tollen Restaurants in der Nähe. Besonders hervorheben möchten wir die herzliche Gastfreundschaft und den unvergesslichen Abend auf der Fabrica Farm – ein echtes Highlight! Die Unterkunft ist etwas hellhörig, aber das gehört zum Charme des Hauses und hat uns nicht gestört.

Πολύ όμορφο και ήσυχο μέρος, τα δωμάτια βρίσκονται σε επίπεδα και αυτό μας βόλεψε αρκετά. Ωραία μπαλκόνια (καλό θα ήταν να έχουν 1-2 καρέκλες ακόμα).

Τα δωμάτια φάνηκαν σαν να είχαν καθαριστεί εβδομάδες ή 1-2 μήνες πριν. Βρήκαμε ιστούς αράχνης στα σκαλιά και σε διάφορα μέρη, ο βραστήρας νερού είχε καταλοιπα από άλατα και φαινόταν όχι καθαρός. Τα σεντόνια, πετσέτες, κτλ, ήταν καθαρά όμως. Επίσης, αν και περιμέναμε μια διαμονή 'ρούστικ', κάποια άλλα πράγματα δεν λειτουργούσαν όπως έπρεπε (τα παράθυρα δεν έκλειναν τελείως, το ένα καζανάκι στο μπάνιο δεν έριχνε αρκετό νερό, δεν υπήρχε στήριγμα για το τηλέφωνο στο ντους, κτλ).
