Charming and helpful host, fantastic location for visiting the surrounding wine region

Valter was a great host! He met us upon arrival at the free parking area right in front of the medieval walls. The apartment is located right in the charming village, and it was perfectly clean and well-maintained. The sleeping area is on the upper floor. Every morning, Valter brings breakfast in a basket and leaves it on your windowsill. He also gave us great recommendations for places to visit, wineries, and restaurants. Location is great for short trips around and a few days of relaxing holidays.

I stayed for 3 nights in this lovely renovated self contained apartment in an old house in Smartno. the owner Valter is very kind and friendly and he collected me from the nearest railway station in Italy and delivered me to the railway station in Slovenia when I departed. Each day a wonderful breakfast basked was delivered and it was full of good food. The medieval village is lovely, with a very helpful tourist information office and place to rent an e-bike. I found everything I needed in the apartment which was over two floors in the old house. A special treat in the village is being able to have a tasting of prosciutto cured for different periods of time. Highly recommended for a lovely stay in a beautiful village.

The nearest grocery store is 3 km away, I walked there and back to get some groceries but you need to walk on a busy road and it is uphill on the way back. This is not a fault of the apartment or the host, just a challenge if you arrive without transport.

The breakfast is spectacular!!! Far above expectations. I checked that the photos were not quite accurate because I think the apartment is so much better than the photos.

I do believe more pillows for the beds would be welcome. We were 3 women that like to sit up and read for a little before sleep, but there was just 1 pillow each.
