The Apple Inn

Huge comfortable bed. Skipped breakfast on the first morning but the one on the second was really good which was a surprise as the evening meal was OK but not brilliant and certainly didnt justify the price tag.

On arrival we hadnt booked for an evening meal and on check-in we had only 2 timeslots available, which was fine but were told the next day had lots of availability. Next day tried to get a table only to be told that they were full. Apple Inn is right in the heart of a whole load of holiday lets with rooms in the Apple Inn itself, shepherds huts, a converted school, self-catering cottages and a large owners-only caravan park. Room layout was awful. No flat surfaces to use as the room was dominated by a large wardrobe and a large chest of drawers, fine if you are staying a week and want to unpack but for 1-2 days, impractical. Lack of table/flat space meant all our stuff stayed in bags or went on the floor. There was a severe lack of powerpoints. In this day and age, we all need charging points within reach so we had to swap between charging phone/tablet/kindle/;aptop. There were 3 double sets of sockets, one high up behind the TV which took TV and kettle/fan/iron and too high up to be of any use unless you had a 1 metre cable. And the other 2 were squashed behind the bedside cabinets, each with a lamp plug already in place. Kettle was on a chest of drawers only 6 inches below the TV and Im sure that didnt do the TV much good when it boiled

Lovely rooms, designed with real flair and style. Great bathrooms with a strong, powerful shower. Charming friendly staff who make you feel really welcome. Good food, particularly the amazing breakfasts. The perfect base for exploring Bamburgh, Alnwick and Lindisfarne.

There was lots of drawer space for clothes but a bit more hanging space would have been useful.

The location and facilities were fantastic. The food was amazing. We had the seafood sharing platter on the first night and it was outstanding. The staff were really helpful and polite. We liked that breakfast was included.

The curtains in the shepherd's hut didn't feel like they gave us full privacy. They opened every time you brushed past and, given the limited space in a shepherd's hut, that happened regularly.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Food wasn’t very good overall, and we waited an hour for breakfast due to staff shortages. Our room was above the pub so very noisy.
