Penzión Reduta

The WiFi was not very stable.

The teenage daughter of the house was very friendly (as was her father who spoke no English) and helpful to us, as she spoke quite a bit of English. The Penzión Reduta, which is on a hill, has a great view of Oravsky Castle , which has more than 700 steps! very nearby. There was a convenient continental breakfast brought to us in the communal kitchen for €7 extra per day with rolls and bread, butter, eggs, cheeses and salami. We bought our own muesli in the next town Dolný Kubin's Tesco. My ground floor room was large and had a sofa; a standard Iamp would have been good addition there. I liked the two tilt-and-turn windows and the door opening onto my own patio. At the rear of the property there was a landscaped terrace garden. There are several restaurants in the town, a short walk away, but most of them close about 8pm.

Although the reservations says there are free toiletries, there is only a liquid hand-soap dispenser. Fortunately we had brought our own shampoo and shower gel. Important to know is that (in common with some other nearby countries eg. Hungary that I had experienced) there is no bathroom basin plug provided. I had brought my own bath plug (larger dimension) from home. The weather was very warm and I would have preferred cotton sheets for coolness. Although the property is on a small local access lane, there is a busy road beyond the trees. This road seems to go quiet during the night however and the windows when closed are well soundproofed.

The location of the property is a small rural town near a beautiful castle. The property looks very nice and the room was a good size with comfortable bed and sofa. The host’s daughter spoke English and was very nice.

There was a drain smell in the room and unless the window was wide open the smell was awful. The window couldn’t be kept open as the noise from the trucks on the highway was relentless. There was one tiny bottle of liquid soap and no other toiletries. We requested breakfast but were told that we had to order this at the time of booking. We were asked to leave earlier than our book out time as another booking was coming in. Our bedroom was directly under a street light and glare came into the room through the venetians.
