Trastevere Charming Penthouse

It was a beautiful traditional property that was very spacious especially the patio and outdoor area. The balcony from bedrooms on first floor were amazing as we woke to full birdsong and then church bells on Sunday morning. The area was quiet with wonderful views over Trastevere. Having 3 bedrooms with our own bathroom was great albeit not connected. Fully fitted kitchen but would have preferred more actual wine glasses but not a deal breaker. We wanted to be close to the key areas of Rome which this provided. It is a great area to stay in and we all felt safe. Setting was amazing from every window. Our immediate impression was positive and the man who showed us into the apartment was gracious and helpful with cases.

Stairs x stairs It’s an old property and on the top floor but the stairs could be likened to a lighthouse or cathedral as little to hold onto , space limited for footing and hard to manoeuvre suitcases. The interior staircases need checking as one has literally nothing to hold onto and it leads to the roof patio. I’m not sure any elderly person would make it. Plugs , what can I say other than all of us have travelled to many places but removing plugs proved to be a team effort which we have never experienced. Shower system played up in 2 bathrooms. A sink that blocked as soon sorted by the team but one bathroom regularly flooded due to the poor drainage and the shower on middle floor had blocked jets and damp on ceiling.

Unlike many European apartments, this one is quite large and has more than one bathroom -- very appreciated for a family party of six. The place has a lot of character and a great roof deck, which we loved in spite of the winter weather. The manager was pretty responsive to glitches about the wifi and the heat, and took care of both issues promptly.

The location has its drawbacks. It's residential and non-touristic, but there are absolutely no restaurants or markets in the immediate vicinity, which makes it inconvenient in some ways. You have to either go up towards the Vatican, down towards the main commercial parts of Trastavere, or cross the river to get anything to eat or drink -- the immediate area within at least a 10-15 min walk is devoid of commercial activity.
