Wow! We couldn't ask for a more beautiful homestay. Joe and his family were so welcoming and the home prepared food was consistently fabulous. We were also advised some amazing tours. We loved looking out onto the forest sunrise and listening to the great bird life. We learnt so much from talking to Joe, who is a truly knowledgeable and kind human. We feel truly privileged to find this place and would love to return. Thank you!

We were very disappointed with our experience at Mistletoe Homestay. We had read good reviews online and were excited to stay with Joe. Since all the double rooms were already booked, we had to reserve the suite (which they call the “honeymoon suite”). However, the value for money of this room was absolutely not acceptable. We paid 9,500 rupees plus 1,750 rupees in taxes, which is far too expensive for a room that was not particularly well-maintained and not very different from the double-room (except the small, dark, and useless sitting area at the entrance of the room….). The issues included stained bath towels, very cheap toiletries, and an impossible-to-adjust shower temperature that was scalding hot (I nearly burned myself). Most of the electrical outlets didn’t work, and the Wi-Fi connection in the room was terrible (because it is on the top floor). Additionally, communication and the organisation of activities were very complicated and unclear. To top it off, they ended up charging us even more than they should have. The food was decent but nothing special—we had much better meals everywhere else in Kerala. The homestay is located on a busy road that is currently under construction and is quite far from Munnar. If you don’t have a driver, it’s really inconvenient. We strongly recommend staying closer to Munnar, as it’s much more enjoyable. Overall, it was a very bad experience, and we do not recommend this place. We heard that higher up and closer to Munnar, there is a five-star hotel called “The Valle Munnar,” which offers very clean, high-end rooms with views of the tea plantations at better rates than Mistletoe.
