Nice and luxurius hotel true french experience

Good food, great bar, big rooms

clattering of water on the outside gutter, bed was lumpy, parking was quite a walk especially annoying when carrying luggage.

Everything was excellent for New Year celebration, room, restaurant, breakfast and service.

We could have been warned that our car would be parked by hotel staff because we had some difficulty in taking all our luggage out of the vehicle before it disappeared!

Elegant, Dog-Friendly Gem

We had a wonderful overnight stay in this elegant and well-located hotel. The staff were warm, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Our room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The hotel is impressively dog-friendly. Dinner was delicious, and the included breakfast was generous and high quality. With fantastic facilities and a peaceful atmosphere, this was a truly relaxing stay. We’d return in a heartbeat!

Good but there is room for improvement.

The hotel is in a good location and keeps the apparences of a past era. Some of the rooms seemed more recently renovated and they are great.

The smell in some of the rooms is questionable (to say the least...)

A wonderful old-world place, with excellent hospitality.

Check-in was very easy, and there was the bonus of help with our luggage and then moving the car to the be parked. The luggage help was very useful as my husband has had an operation and can't carry anything! Martin from the hotel was very kind. Similarly, at check-out we were able to have assistance from Martin. A real gem!

The room was a fair distance from the lift, and the final stretch was up a short flight of stairs: without Martin's help with our luggage I would really have struggled.

Well located, clean, lovely option — but at that price level, rooms must also be practical.

Great location in the city centre, with ready access to a public underground parking garage. The staff suggested a change of room to avoid a noisy event on the square and were uniformly very pleasant.

The bathroom was immaculate and well lit, but the combined shower and bath is impractical — no curtain, so water all over the floor, and the sloping ceiling made it impossible to stand under the shower anyway. Quaint bathrooms were a staple of French hotels in the 20th century — 21st century luxury hotel rooms demand a functional shower. Also, we failed to find a safe in the room. Again, unacceptable in a hotel of this ambition…

Beautiful and cozy retreat

The room was exceptionally well appointed and comfortable. We choose this hotel due to its proximity to the Cathedral and it was perfect. .

The only issue that was negative was lack of parking and no way to to pull the car up to load and unload passengers and luggage. All must be brought to the hotel across street & sidewalk

If You're Travelling to Chartres, Stay at Le Grand Monarque

This is a truly delightful hotel. Our room was spacious and well-appointed. The staff is highly-trained, engaging, discreet, and gracious -- from the Front Desk Manager, to the concierge, to the valet, to the wait staff, to the bartender, to the housekeeper. The hotel's bar is intimate and comfortable. Our dinner in Brasserie La Cour was exceptional!

Regular stay

We always try to stay here when we stop over in Chartres. The location for the town centre is excellent and it's close to the town's underground car park. The staff are particularly nice & helpful. The rooms are well presented and clean. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are quiet. All in a very nice hotel.

Location is nice, staff is professional and nice.

That the bathtub was broken, water flooded the bathroom!! We had to change the room, and the one we moved in was less charming. Breakfast isn’t tasty , really sad!!! And I have a feeling that everything is too old. Poorly decorated. Hotel isn’t for young people that’s for sure. Different age –different expectations!

Very nice hotel right in the centre of Chartres, a few minutes walking from the Cathedral. Comfortable rooms and beds, professional and well-trained staff. We had some cheese and wine while listening to a piano player in the bar - was a highlight of our evening. Will come again.

A real treat

The staff were superb. Polite, helpful, courteous, everything.The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds we've slept in. Breakfast was excellent - so much was made in house. Car was valet parked. All outstanding.
