Not the best of hotels for what is charged. Breakfast like staying at Faulty Towers

The hotel is located close to the city centre. Staff were friendly and helpful on checking in. The lady at breakfast was amazing and extremely helpful, even though she was on her own and rushed off her feet trying to serve breakfast, cook food, check people out and organise a conference. We felt really sorry for her, but despite how busy she was she was extremely helpful and very friendly.

We booked a large room which was advertised as a deluxe room. It was not deluxe and in general needed a lot of TLC and an upgrade as it was very dated and basic. The carpet was well worn and the net curtain "thing" over the bed was wripped not to mention how dirty it was. The room was very tired and dated. Also needed a good clean. The worst part of the stay was the breakfast itself We arrived down for breakfast at 0810hrs in plenty of time for breakfast finishing as advertised at 0900hrs. Sadly there was hardly any cooked food left despite there only being five other people sitting down for breakfast. The sausages had all gone, the bacon looked like it had been cooked hours earlier as it had all dried out. No eggs and only a spoon full of cold beans were left. There was a tray full of black pudding, but again all dried out. When asked if we could have more food cooked the lady explained that she was on her own and the chef had gone home, even though it was only 0815hrs and people were still turning up for breakfast. Three other guests sitting next to me were also complaining of the lack of food and quality. I think in the end they only had toast. Given the poor offering with the cooked breakfast I asked the female to remove this for my wife and I from our booking and asked if I could be refunded the £20 that we had pre paid. The female staff member agreed to do this but said she would need to get her managers approval later. She confirmed this again when we checked out. Its now six days since checking out of the hotel and I've not received the refund nor had any communication from the hotel. Breakfast was like staying at faulty towers......one staff member trying to serve breakfast, cook food, check guests in and out. Serve at the bar (two guests drinking pints of lager at breakfast). Greet guests turning up for a conference and arrange their refreshments. The female staff member was amazing and trying her best.

Old building in need of refurbishment but the hotel was warm and clean. The staff were welcoming. Best bed i have slept on in several years!!!. Parking free. Very good value

hotel was ok but never slept

The staff were good especially the chap that cooked my breakfast, so helpful and polite, the room was ok nothing wrong just basic, no coffee or tea facility which was a bit sad.

I didn't sleep at all due to the person in the room above pacing around literally all night, the floor was so noisy I did call reception at 1am to ask that they speak to them but it never stopped and left me out of sorts for the rest of the day and very tired driving.

Nice people - but the processes need a SERIOUS overhaul.

The staff at the hotel are some of the most pleasant you are likely to encounter and the breakfast each morning was excellent - lots of options and plenty of food if you needed a top up.

Firstly, my room had no internet. Despite investigations by the staff, the night porter - who seemingly had been employed at this place forever - stated not all rooms had WiFi. That is fine, but it should either (A) Be advertised as such and reflected in the room price or (B) Further routers should be deployed to extend the range. Secondly, parking. The night porter on my first night mistakenly booked me in for only one night instead of 3 and as a result, I was issued with three parking tickets totalling £300. In fairness to the staff they resolved this within 24 hours and got the tickets cancelled, but it is extra hassle, I, as a paying guest could do without.

Fantastic service and food!

Some of the friendliest service we've had! Great menu and awesome beers! The proprietor was extremely helpful with places to go and things to see and even gave us momentos that will make us remember our stay forever. Sensational value for money!

I did not like was the fact that I asthmatic and there was mould all over the window there was cracks in places Door constantly rattling and seeing somebody hanging out outside my door for a good few minutes and a member of staff or cleaning person coming into my not long after I first checked in and went for a walk came back and noticed some stuff was moved very disgusted

Staff doing their best, the rooms need a little TLC.

It was perfect location for my journey. The lady on reception was lovely and warm which was wonderful for sad circumstances for my trip.

The bathroom had some ingrained unsightly mild around shower fittings and tiled corners. A nasty coloured mark in the wall and room carpeted corners dirty. Also the whole first floor smells of weed smoking.

There are better options.

There's just something odd about this hotel. On one hand it's clear that at some point someone committed to upgrades and offering extended services etc, on the other hand there are many questionable things that are quite evident. In my room the toilet seat was completely broken off, the desk was coming away from the wall, the shower drain had its plastic cover missing leaving sharp edges, the curtains were missing most off their hooks, a fan had no front cover leaving blades exposed. In another of our rooms a socket had been added by running a cable around the room and loosely secured to the top of the skirting board. The socket was a necessary addition but the method leaves a lot to be desired. Not a good look. Generally it had the feel that something changed and it is now more lower rent than it set out to be. There is a doctor running a surgery from a previous conference space. There didn't look to be a breakfast option. It was ok, but just had a sad feel. Business maybe tough right now, but a more welcoming and lighter atmosphere in the bar and check in areas may have listed to mood a little.

Great staff, poor room!

The staff were very friendly and once they recognised an issue delt with it swiftly. Everything was clean.

The room was too hot to sleep. There wasn't enough toilet roll in the room. My request for a vegan breakfast was ignored until breakfast time. My fellow traveller ate their breakfast, and mine was provided half an hour later. The hotel needs updating. There was no teaspoon to use the tea making facilities and no vegan milk even though I added that information to my booking.

Disappointing

Bed linen was clean.

Parking was tight, the feel of the place was tired, didn’t receive full set of towels, the shower base was damaged, there wasn’t no plug in the basin, there wasn’t tea or coffee in the room, the carpet was sticky.

Very disappointed with the Manager who has failed to respond to my polite emails

We had two rooms. One of the beds in one of the rooms was uncomfortable, it had something sharp sticking through the mattress, these things happen. But the reason I’ve given this hotel such a low score is because the manager has completely ignored my emails. This is not ok.

A sad reflection on the world we now live in!

Parking Security. A vandal on an Ebike rode into the car park ,rode around in the car park and then smashed 2 side windows on my elderly Jaguar for no apparent reason. It has cost me money and a great deal of inconvenience and served to spoil the flavour of our stay. To be fair the staff did their best to help us, and the Police did not seem at all interested. I believe other vehicles were damaged. Some sort of security gate is needed on the Hotel car park, sadly!

The lady in reception was extremely pleasant and helpful.

The room was in a sorry state of neglect and decay. The curtains had bits hanging off, the bath panel was rotten and damaged, the windows were very dirty with black mould on them, there was a missing bedside table on one side and the toilet flush was defective. The pillows were way past their useful life.

Easy to find

Couldn't turn off the heating in the room. Only 1 of 3 lights worked in the bedroom. One bathroom mirror light missing Breakfast was poor, had to ask for clean cups.
