Relaxing , spacious and close to nature
Very relaxing , not crowded but busy . Friendly , helpful staff , nicely decorated for Xmas 🎅
I’ve stayed here many times over the years so it’s always a pleasant experience . Under new management now but still retains its old world charm with a modern twist .

Beautiful hotel, comfortable beds and views from window was beautiful
Needs more attention to detailed cleaning..
Bathroom shower door and shower has black mould, shower door was very hard to close , windows were smeared with hand prints. The hairdryer had a lot of fluff caught up in it.

Staff friendly and helpful. Leisure Centre needs alot of work.
Bedroom - very spacious. Children loved waking up looking out at the big trees. Beds so comfortable. Requested extra pillows and got them.
There was a dessert & birthday banner left in our room on arrival for the birthday boy (Dad). Lovely touch. Also two Halloween bags with treats for the children.
Breakfast - loads of option's and delicious. Staff at breakfast very friendly & helpful.
Anna at reception had given us a free family pass to the Pumpkin Patch in town. What a lovely surprise. The children loved the Pumpkin Patch even in the pouring rain.
We ate in the bar one night - beautiful food lots of options.
Staff very friendly to my children.
Rooms cleaned each day & fresh towels.
Also water bottles were left each day. (Appreciated as myself & children drink alot of water at night).
Rooms cozy and warm had to turn heat down one night. ( good complaint).
Ripples play Centre/area - very clean & my children enjoyed the slides.
The bathroom in the room was my big issue. The shower was distugusting it needed a good clean. Mould on the bottom half of tiles. Shower door very hard to open and close. Found it very hard to wash my hair & childrens as water pressure was so low.
Requested to move room but unfortunately none available. If booking ask for a renovated room. They are beautiful & have good showers. (Unfortunately we hadn't requested before arrival).
The Leisure Centre is in need of serious work. Tiles need a good clean everywhere. Lockers broken. Very cold in changing room.
The pool is very dangerous- vents around the pool are broken & move. My child was getting into the pool & one moved, causing her to fall. She really hurt herself. The Jacuzzi is just heated water, no bubbles. There are missing vents around it which is so dangerous when getting in & out.
The pictures online are taken at a distance & little blurted for a reason.
I didn't use the gym or see it.
Very few people around the Leisure Centre for a bank holiday weekend.
Unfortunately you have to leave the hotel to walk to the Leisure Centre. ( very wet weekend).
The hotel seems to be an IPAS centre as the top floor of the hotel is out of use for guests. There is people living there. In the evenings, there were teenagers outside driving around on electric scooters. Which was a little dangerous especially since they were waering black & no hi-vis jackets on them.

Very enjoyable and comfortable
The hotel was nice and comfortable. The rooms were clean, warm, beds comfortable. We ate in the bar both nights of our stay, food was delicious, great selection, very well priced, children's menus had a good choice. The bar was colder than the rest of the hotel. Lovely breakfast. Very friendly staff. We used the pool, nice facility, the pool area needs work but they are currently doing renovations on it. There is a swimming pool, kids pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, towels available at reception for hotel guests. There is also a soft play area but we didn't go to it. Lovely location, beside a lovely river, nice grounds. Lovely playground close-by and short drive into Ballina town.

Did the job
The staff were very helpful and location was great
Breakfast was mediocre and dietary needs not well catered for with GF bread stale and moldy, and oat milk off. Staff were very helpful though and replaced those items, and I wasn’t charged for the meal.

Everything from the moment we arrived was excellent. The staff were friendly and nothing was a bother to them to sort out. The food was amazing. The room was clean and warm. So much work has gone into the hotel to better the standards and it is really paying off.

Lovely staff in a hotel that has seen better days.
Staff in the bar and at the reception were very helpful.
I stayed in this hotel many years ago and liked it greatly. Now, it is redolent of faded grandeur. While the bedroom was adequate, everything else in the hotel looked drab and tired. The hotel, which is in a fine riverside location, needs to be completely revitalised.

Not worth the money
Staff were very friendly
The room was infested with flies as if there was a a load of eggs that hatched, window was opened and when we came back that night as we left the light on there was over 100 mini fruit flies all over the walls. It took us a very long time to kill them all, we advised at the reception someone was to ring and never did. After paying €170 it was very disappointing as they were also all over the bed

A lovely hotel with great potential, but let down by cleanliness, renovation timing, and a lack of a
A quaint little hotel with plenty of potential. The rooms were comfortable, offering a straightforward place to rest. The setting is lovely, with mature trees and a gentle river nearby that add a scenic charm to the experience. Breakfast, however, left a bit to be desired — it was very basic. Staff were nice!
A quaint hotel with lots of promise, though our stay came with a few disappointments. The rooms were comfortable but could’ve been cleaner — my daughter found crayons under her bed, which made us question how thoroughly the room had been tidied. On checkout morning, staff came in to freshen up the room between 10 and 12, which felt a bit premature considering checkout was at noon.
The leisure centre was consistently busy, and the pool itself was quite small, although there was a toddler pool and hot tub available. The seating area left a lot to be desired, chairs were very uncomfortable. Renovations were underway during our stay, and unfortunately, a large skip was parked directly outside the leisure centre entrance — a bit of an eyesore. It's worth noting that these works were being carried out during peak season, which seemed poorly timed and added some disruption.
Breakfast was decent — a basic fry with a small gluten-free section. The young waitress working alone did her best and was very helpful when approached, but a supervisor’s presence would have made things run more smoothly. Tea, butter, and other basics had to be requested rather than being offered upfront. No management presence was felt throughout our stay, and on departure, we weren’t asked how our experience had been.
There’s no denying this hotel has a lot of potential, with its charming setting and warm staff. A bit more attention to detail and better timing on renovations would go a long way.
3.0 / 10.0
Disappointing as it has potential with location.
Location was great. River runs right past the hotel and there's a children play park across the street at the end of the driveway. Bar food was good and hotel had a nice atmosphere. Good childs swimming pool.
Breakfast was horrible, sausages and bacon are kept warm via bain marie rather than heat lamps so everything was soggy and slightly under cooked on all 3 mornings we ate. No blinds in the room and curtains were not fully black out which at this time of year meant room was light until late and from very early in the morning, not ideal for kids. Was told by reception 3 times about getting a cot in the room and it never arrived over the 3 days. Would have been nice to be informed of leisure centre renovations before arriving on site. Whole top level of the hotel currently closed off and the noise from that level was too much especially running and shouting children. Windows were filthy right throughout the hotel including rooms and corridors.

No music in the bar sat/sun in Summer No interest for anyone to go to the bar , very quiet
Breakfast excellent
Not too far to walk into town
Very comfy
Heard it was going to be done up would like to see this
We were not told about the refugees staying in most of the hotel and you can see where and the noise and a man came into the hotel shouting while we were sitting with our sons.
No body about the hotel on a Sat night except us think this was the reason.
No music on in bar -again Sat night in July empty not good.

Family friendly hotel in Ballina
Humble 3* hotel with lovely staff. All the staff we interacted with were genuinely nice and helpful. Stayed 2 nights with kids and we felt well looked after.
Leisure centre fully functional despite ongoing upgrades.
Food in the Frog Restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced.
Ongoing upgrades in hotel and leisure centre might be a bit distracting but loads of signs apologising for inconveniences.
