About this cabin rental

*****A LAKE AND MOUNTAIN VACATION!*****

The Pioneer Trading Post is located on beautiful Douglas Lake with 600 miles of shoreline, marinas, restaurants, bars, music and mountain vistas.

You have found a Historic Property with character and authenticity that is truly hard to come by. This is not a generic, cooky cutter cabin. Sections of the cabin were built by the Scot- Irish settlers who were early pioneers to the Great Smoky Mountains at the turn of the century and their craftsmanship and building skills have stood the test of time. We have 5 beautifully appointed bedrooms, which sleep 10 comfortably.

THE PIONEER TRADING POST IS A MUSEUM TO OUR APPALACHIAN AND CHEROKEE BLENDED CULTURE
YET WITH ALL THE CONVENIENCES OF MODERN LIVING:
You will find early American chestnut walls and ceilings, a totem pole made by Chief Blue Cloud, vintage oak and heart pine floors, spinning wheels, quilts, church pews on the porch, butter churns, pie safes, cedar chests and claw foot tubs. We also have showers and a jacuzzi.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Located just 15 minutes from Hwy 66, which is the Gateway to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains. Popular area attractions are a short drive away. Skip the traffic and take the back road to Dollywood or shop until you drop.

THE LAKE!! MARINA RESTAURANTS, BARS, and MUSIC:
During the summer months you can rent a pontoon boat, jet skis, paddle boards and kayaks at one of several local marinas and enjoying the beauty of Douglas Lake and its 600 miles of shoreline.
You can also visit Otter Cove Marina and Cowboys Restuarant and Marina, both have food, cocktail bars, live music and Karaoke.

FISHING:
Douglas Lake's 2025 fishing tournament lineup is full of fun, competition, and incredible prizes. So grab your gear, pack your tackle box.
Or just relax on the dock and enjoy a beer and catch some fish. (Permits at the gas station).

LAKE LEVELS: Douglas Lake is a seasonal dam controlled lake. Lake levels vary. TVA (TN Valley Authority) starts releasing water from the dam in the Fall in order to make room for winter storms and snow run-off. TVA starts to lower the water level in the cove after Labor Day. The lake is at it's fullest from early May and late August. The home owners do not control the lake levels or rain accumulation. However, the cabin and its location are beautiful year round. Please check TVA website for more accurate lake Level information. https://www.tva.com/environment/lake-levels

FIRE PIT: We have a lovely fire pit for very small fires. If it is dry due to a lack of rain we must observe fire bans and home owners discretion for safety.

The VRBO host and the property are outstanding. We loved our time on the back patio deck. It offers three different seating areas. When the weather was gorgeous, we enjoyed the uncovered area admiring the lake. During a lite rain we sat under the covered area with a ceiling fan keeping us cool and comfortable. The home is stunning, charming and oh so very cozy. Each bedroom is unique and welcoming. The home shares the family's heritage, which makes you feel as though you are a part of the past. The kitchen is well appointed with a Viking gas stove and all gadgets needed to prepare family meals. Plenty of room to allow numerous cooks to work together. In addition, the outdoor grill is new and very clean -- enjoyed grilling several times.BOOK THIS BEAUTIFUL HOME!!! You will love it.

Our stay at the Trading Post was magnificent! Morning walks breathing in fresh, mountain air. Coffee and breakfast on the deck overlooking the lake. We sat comfortably on the dock while the kids kayaked, swam, and fished. The water was warm, yet refreshing. Around in landscaping are cozy coves and hideaway nooks to sit and enjoy the sounds of the forest. This is a true log cabin, and a piece of history. I was incredibly impressed at the cleanliness of the home. There was neither dust, nor pest. It was very cozy and welcoming. Also, I don't know how we will survive not having a sleeping porch at home. What a gem!!I also loved the little owl "love notes" posted in important places. It was a cute way to help guests remember how to take care of the home.Tara was a pleasure to work with. The home is part of her family, and her love for it shows. We were happy to love it too for the time we were there. She gave us some great recommendations for things to do and see. Check-in and check-out were seamless. Wifi access was great. The kitchen was amazing. I had forgot coffee, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a small station with all I needed to get my morning fix!The location was perfect for us. We had our lakeside getaway, and we were close enough to Pigeon Forge, Gaitlinburg, and The Smokies to enjoy things in those places as well.Perfect vacation, we can't wait to come back!

Here is your review, gently refined for clarity, rhythm, and emotional resonance, while preserving your deeply personal voice:⸻My sister made it a point to gather my brother and me for some quality time. Now in our 40s and 50s, this was something we had never done. She wanted us to come together—to heal, and to build a new relationship as adults, after growing apart since our teenage years. My brother suggested Tennessee, and I agreed, with the understanding that I would choose the environment. A sense of home, of history and heritage, was important to me.Tara’s family home was a dream. A magical place filled with objects that held a wealth of memories. We spent a long weekend there, one that began our journey together again. I’m entirely grateful for this space, which now holds a piece of my own history. Memories were made there—memories I will never be able to replicate.Very sadly, my sister passed unexpectedly just last week.I’m left with enormous thanks and deep gratitude to Tara for welcoming us into her home. That visit was nearly a year ago, and just today, I received a kind review from Tara—after she and her home had been so intensely on my mind. It came as no surprise that this intuitive angel would reach out at just the right moment. In our VRBO communication, before and after the visit, we shared intimate stories of our parallel yet unconnected histories—Tara, having once lived in New York City, where I now live. Her kindness was and remains appreciated,

We stayed 5 nights at the cabin, but wish we could’ve stayed longer! I’m pretty sure we still didn’t manage to see everything in the place! It was definitely the most unique vacation home we’ve ever rented. Our group of adults and teens came to enjoy the lake and spend time on our boat, and this proved to be a great place to do all of that. The quiet cove and our own dock was perfect for all of us to relax, swim, paddleboard, etc in the calm water. We enjoyed a family day in Pigeon Forge and spent the rest of the time enjoying the lake from our boat, eating at the local marinas while listening to live music, and just relaxing on the porch or strolling through the property!

The overall trip location and house was great. We had a great time fishing off the dock and the kids had fun swimming in the lake. We would come back again.
