La Finca Lodge

The family that owns it, the staff, the beauty of everything, the view from the room, and the shower!!

Having nightstand lamps would instantly make it cozier, and make it easier to turn out the lights after chatting before bed or reading in bed.

I don't know where to start, from our arrival until we sadly left everything was perfect for us. Let's start by the beginning, the staff that we have the joy to have interaction with went all the extra miles (Julian and his apprentice/I'm sorry not to remember your name), who welcome us upon arrival and helping us to our bungalow with our luggage. Santiago and Carolina at the restaurant welcoming us with such friendliness and professionalism at the same time. Estefan (I believe) who gave us recommendations for places to visit for an authentic experience. Natalia the morning receptionist always with a smile and again going the extra miles to get a booking for us. Then the bungalow, spacious and private, with a lovely way to the restaurant amongst the beautiful flora and with the possibilities of seeing some fauna. The view on waking up was amazing. Did I mention the hammock 😍

If I ever go back to Costa Rica I will for sure come back to La Finca Lodge. If I could give them 12/10 I would. The property is absolutely stunning, you can spend a day exploring, swimming in the pool, visiting the animals. There's a good view of the Arenal Volcano. Catch a sunset from the restaurant. The hotel is family owned and you can really tell. So much care is put into everything. Any request or question we had was met and answered. The staff was SO nice. Everyone. From the receptionists, through the waiters, cooks, cleaners to the farm hands. We wanted an extra top sheet and tried to write the cleaners a note, but the pen ran out of ink after writing Hola so the rest of the message was just carved into the paper and THEY READ IT and left us an extra sheet. Amazing. We were so impressed. Plan to eat at the restaurant. The food is to die for. I especially loved the palm heart casserole. And make sure you get a fruit shake! The restaurant is located in the family's old house and it's very beautiful. And I love that it also has sentimental value. The view is really nice and the mini donkeys and horses are just a short walk. If you're lucky the little pack of labradors might accompany you to see them. Each cabin has it's own parking space. We were staying pretty close to the reception and pool and thanks to all the plants on the property the cabin felt so private! I was very worried about bugs coming to CR but the only bugs we encountered were the cicadas that we could only hear, not see. I was very happy about the lack of bugs haha. Yes the Finca is a bit farther from La Fortuna, but for me, the distance was totally worth the quality of our stay. We wished we could have stayed longer. I wanted to practice my Spanish and was able to, but my friend doesn't speak Spanish and everyone was able to speak to us in English, as well.

The ONLY and I really mean only thing we had some trouble with is that as europeans we're not used to sleeping with the A/C on and the A/C was directly above the bed. We ended up having it on before bed, then turning it off. We turned the ceiling fan on but blowing at the ceiling so it would just move the air, but not blow on us. This was the winning sleep combination for us.

Gorgeous property with animals (both farm and wild) and incredible staff. The staff at both the front desk and restaurant went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. We can’t wait to come back.

The property is a bit further out from La Fortuna and Arenal (40 minutes driving) so you definitely need a car. The distance helps give it the peaceful, secluded vibe that we loved though.
