    the staff is thoughtful and helpful. We feel home at the hotel. Breakfast was great and full of variety. The location is strategic and close to the old town.

    An international brand hotel, that didn’t change mattress for more than 10 years. I thought had difficult sleeping due to low of oxygen. And it turns out the mattress and pillow is damn uncomfortable due to ages. Didn’t sleep well and comfortable. And as international brand known for its world class services, this hotel unable to speak English and hard to communicate. Other than that, the staff are friendly and trying to accommodate.

    I am exceptionally surprised by such lousy front desk staff, in particular a male staff (in black uniform, tall) that was working the afternoon/evening shift for today & yesterday. Unfriendly & impatient. This male receptionist rudely snickered at us when we asked a question about the hotel’s facilities. He raised his voice, shook his head and made a comment to his colleague as if we asked a stupid question. Never expected Shangri-La which is supposedly an international “5-star” brand to have such low quality staff. I would give 0 stars if there was an option.

    It’s an affordable 5 star hotel from a reputable brand hotel but don’t expect the same level of service or same level of amenities as compared to other Shangri La hotel. Reception staff wasn’t welcoming and did not tell us where the lobby is or the breakfast timing and location which a 4-5 star hotel always does. Room aircon temperature is fixed and cannot be adjusted. In the sunny afternoon, it might feel stuffy but they gave us a fan. Evening was ok as the night is cold and the window could be open. While reception staff wasn’t good, service manager, Bob, was good. He brought us a fan and a platter of fruits. He also gave us tips on how to handle the high altitude and told us to dress warmly when we head out in evening. Bed is comfortable with good pillow. Breakfast buffet spread is very good. Lots of varieties. The hotel could improve on its drop off point. They put a barrier on the entrance and exit. Therefore most taxi/didi will just wait and drop us off outside the hotel entrance. Which defeats the purpose of a drop off right? So silly, why would you have a barrier there? Even though the taxi can enter, most afraid they can’t pass through the gantry.
