Breathtaking view and top-notch hospitality

I had the pleasure of staying at Rethymno Hills for 8 nights, in 2 types of rooms. Both rooms were well-equipped (if something was missing, the owner was helpful and took care of it right away). The cleaning staff is thorough, the rooms were spotless. Both rooms I stayed in has sea- view which was breathtaking, and also that side of the hotel faces North, the sun doesn't reach those rooms. So in September the AC was not needed at all, however the wet clothes and towels dried slower on the balcony. Since the hotel is situated on the top of the hill, it is very quiet, which I loved. The rooms are well insulated, I couldn't hear the neighbours. It is a family- run hotel, and the owners are very friendly and helpful and will do their best to make your stay the best possible. I highly recommend Rethymno Hills.

Not that I wasn't happy about these things, but I think it's good t know when you book here: The location is best accessible by car, however the hotel doesn't have a designated parking lot. It can mean that if you arrive late- when the locals are also at home- you have to circle around to find a parking spot. Rethymno town is far on foot and the main street taking you there is far from being picturesque and not pedestrian- friendly at all. There's a small beach not far from the hotel, but it is dirty, so if you want to spend some nice time by the sea, go to Rethymno beach. There's no lift in the hotel and the stairs are narrow, take that into consideraton when packing and if you have trouble with stairs. Sometimes the bathrooms can smell terribly because of sewage. But that is not the hotel's fault it's an unfortunate common phenomenon in that area.

The only place to stay in Rethymno.

Everything! The location is great, with a beautiful view of the sea from the balcony. Takes about 30 mins to walk into the old town, or you can drive in around 5 mins. 10 minute walk away from some lovely restaurants right on the beach. The staff are amazing, very kind and welcoming. Give good advice and will look after you. Highly recommend the property.

Was a nice stay

The room was very clean and quiet. Lots of light. The kitchen was a good size and the room was big. The balcony/room felt private and secure as well and had another door to enter it from the road. The room was also an upgrade from my economy reservation. Staff was friendly and still taking covid precautions which was appreciated.

No huge complaints about the hotel. Everything was basically as I expected and completely satisfactory, but I thought the pool would have a deep end, but it did not. It is outside the city center but close enough to walk (there are stairs down the hill). A taxi backup was also cheap (5 euros)

We had initially booked the cheapest room, but were offered an upgrade to the economy-size room upon arrival. I can't imagine what the highest-priced rooms looked like, because even the economy suite was huge and opened up right on to the pool area. We had a friendly welcome from reception with some wine and snacks, and found them very helpful when it came to requesting room cleaning and towel changing (current covid restrictions in Greece mean this is no longer offered as a default). The pool was pleasant to use for an afternoon and we found ample parking on the street outside. Our economy suite had a balcony, a small kitchenette, a dining area, powerful air conditioning, etc.

It's slightly out of the way of town, but we didn't mind the walk too much.

Great views, bad location

The views were fantastic. The decoration and themes of the rooms are great. The receptionist were very friendly and helpful. All looked clean and renovated.

Kitchen was extremely basic: cutlery and dishes to the minimum. Fridge was tiny and freezer hardly worked (24hrs to have half-frozen ice cubes). We wanted a place were we could cook, and there is was not very appropriate for that. Location is far from Old Town (around 30-40min on foot) and the worse are the hills to climb if you don't have a car. We choose the place because close to Koumbes Beach, but the beach was very dirty and bad (not like in photos) so we didn't go there. That meant location for us was very bad because we had to go to the beach at the other side of town (50min on foot).

Dissapointing experience-Not value for money-Would not recommend

Cozy and sufficiently clean rooms near Rethymno. Polite staff.

I have booked an economy room which did not meet the expectations I have formed by reading the description on Booking.com. -The room is not "ground floor" as described, but below road level -as stated in many other reviews. The balcony is at the same level with the parking lot so if you are seated in the balcony, your face is at the same level with the tires of the parked cars -photo added -The television had a problematic antenna reception, so we could only watch local Cretan TV channels -not even the national public Greek television channels -The shower is not closed and as a result the floor was flooded after each shower. There was a hydromassage column at the shower, which could not be used, since I cannot imagine what the situation would be if someone added water pressure more than the one actually needed for a "normal" shower -As its name implies, the hotel is up on a hill, so it is not "walking" distance from Rethymno old town. You really need a car or a taxi to get around. Apart from the Booking.com descriptions -The kitchen was equipped, but the only coffee making appliance was an electronic kettle and some instant coffee sticks -no other coffee machine for filter coffee or espresso. -As other reviewers already mentioned, the pool is small and its value is more on the decorative side -to be fair though, that is really visible in the photos, so we had no expectations on the pool. In a nutshell, on a rate of more than 100 euros per night without breakfast and with all the issues mentioned above, I would not recommend Rethymno Hills as a value for money option, even under the "economy" label; especially for families, the economy rooms are unsuitable because of their size and aforementioned lack of a usable balcony or other outdoor space. The hotel charged as the whole stay 14 days before our arrival, since that is their policy, based on the free cancellation period.

Exceptional

Very cute hotel, personal is amazing, welcoming, kind and attentive to your needs. There is everything you need in the hotel room, even utensils to cook, dishes. My room had a balcony where I had a great breakfast with a beautiful see view. There was even a small swimming pool, which was the savior during the heat. You can order a breakfast which will be delivered to the room and order other dishes during the day (pasta with chicken is super tasty and the portion is huge). A beach nearby is also great, the view is fabulous. The hotel is located on the hill, so you need to walk a bit by the stairs while returning from the beach/Rethymno city center. It is quite cheap to take a taxi from the city center, but it is also ok to walk by foot. I really enjoyed my stay, the combination of quality-money is perfect!

Very friendly and clean hotel

Staffs were absolutely amazing, friendly and helpful! They tried their best to help us out. It was very thoughtful of them. Room got perfectly furnished kitchen and with a nice sea view from the hill.

Location was a bit far from the city center (15-20 mins walking) but it was worth to stay here. The Jacuzzi had a problem but they refunded the amount for it, so it was not an issue
