Wonderful place! Staff was kind and helpful, the hotel and rooms are beautiful and clean - we would definitely come back

Poor WiFi connection, bathroom could be improved (not fully closed off from the bedroom, water pressure low, shower not isolated well from the rest of the bathroom so showering wets the whole bathroom)

Short distance to centro. Clean safe place to stay. Disliked smell of bathroom.

Amazing receptionist and security. We felt safe. Close to the centro (Zocalo). Plus that this hotel has an elevator. Beautiful balcony with a view.

Did not like the smell from the bathroom. During our entire stay it smelled like sewer and the smell did not go away. Even if we closed the door to the bathroom. The smell was unbearable. Seems like there might be a pipe/sewer issue.

Left early due to noise and surrounding area feeling unsafe for solo female traveller.

Clean bed and towels.

Paper thin walls. Very noisy. Locks on doors are very basic. Streets surrounding hotel do not feel safe at night. Felt expensive for what I paid.

El happy express hotel centro

The location was perfect to walk around everywhere in the central district. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Felt clean, safe.

The birds in the courtyard chirping like there’s no tomorrow. Earplugs or noise canceling headphones would be ideal. Also please look into the WiFi it cuts in and out.

hit and miss. pricey for what it was.

It was fine for orientating myself to the city and state. One male staff member (I think more connected to his Indigenous roots) was seemed quite authentic/sincere and was quite friendly. The room was neatly-ordered (though keeping the windows open would have helped against the stuffiness). They recommended a decent café on the corner, and convenience store.

Some other guests were very loud early one morning. The staff present did nothing to ask them to lower their voices. I tried calling the reception to ask them to ask these guests to lower their voices but a woman receptionist hung up on me. They seemed to give me bad directions to a bar they revommended that was mostly some ignorant foreigners. Clarity and better direction would have helped. They connected me to a couple services that on reflection were a bit expensive.

A happy stay in the Happy Express

My friend and I had a lovely stay in the Happy Express Hotel. The owners and staff were exceptionally friendly and obliging. There is a lovely atmosphere in the hotel. Our bedroom was cleaned every day with fresh towels provided. The showers were hot. The hotel is within a 10 - 15 minute walk of all the main attractions. There is a small kitchen area with drinking water, tea and coffee, a fridge and a microwave. Thank you for making our time in Oaxaca very comfortable.

Good facilities and service at a very affordable price

For the price this a great hotel - good sized room, kitchen, hot drinks and water refills. They have daily housekeeping and a big courtyard you can sit out in. It is on the edge of the centre so it is quiet but you are only a few minutes walk to the central squares. We walked everywhere the whole time we stayed.

Highly recommend

The concierge/front desk staff were amazing. we had a few questions throughout our stay and they were always happy to help, even called vendors on our behalf as we don’t speak Spanish. The hotel is in a great location, very close the main square, market, and lots of restaurants & food stalls. The best shower so far in our travels.

Very nice and clean. Beautiful little patio. Great to have refillable water dispenser for chilled and hot water. Location is great for short walk to Zócalo and Mercado. Double bed room was good size for 2. Great water pressure with plenty of hot water.

Mattress was a bit too firm for my American back, but doable for a few days.

- The room could have one more chair even a folding one. - No light in the closet. The hotel could invest in a battery operated light.

Exceptional

An absolutely exceptional hotel. Friendly accommodating staff, a good kitchen to make tea and coffee or eat, lovely courtyard with birds in the trees, quiet but also other guests to converse with, clean and efficiently run overall. Great views from 3rd floor rooms as well via a pleasant lift.

I would have liked a warm shower, the outside temperature was pleasant and not always a boiling hot day when you need a cold one.

Staying in Beautiful Oaxaca !

The stay at the Happy Hotel was very pleasant. Clearly the most positive aspect of the place is the amazing staff, very nice and professional. The Hotel is very well located near the Zocalo, with a café near by for mornings and evenings. The room was much bigger than expected an this was very well appreciated. The stay was short but a success, the hotel is located in a rather quiet area. Oaxaca is a very beautiful city !

Nothing could have been better just maybe better curtains. The elevator is slightly noisy but this is being very picky !

Great little find for a couple nights in Oaxaca.

Cute little clean, renovated,no frills hotel. Very helpful staff. quiet, comfortable bed. great location on the edge of the tourist historic center so there are real Mexican shops and restaurants, as well as higher priced touristy ones. Great breakfast spot half a block away (Alex Cafe) including parrots...

Exceptional

Hotel was clean & quiet - I had a room towards the back of the hotel on the second floor (out of 3 floors total). There is a water station on the first floor along with some instant coffee/tea options and a fridge. My room had an A/C and while the weather was pleasant during my visit, the room can get stuffy so its nice to have (there is a window, but it opens to the courtyard and the air is not the cleanest in the city). Hotel employees were kind & helpful whenever I needed something.

Really nothing at all - the only comment is while there's a fridge, there's no stove to do real cooking (but to cut some fruits or a bowl of cereal, etc its just fine).

Front desk tried to help me with directions, taxis, pharmacia even though they didn't speak english. AC and renovated bathroom.

Room too small, all it could fit was the bed. Needed bi-lingual front desk.

Overall it was comfortable and generally claen. Very central and cheap.

The hotel was very central, very close to Zocalo area. The rooms were very clean. Bed and pillows soft and comfortable. Tv works well and they put new bottles of water everyday to your room, free of charge. Room very spacious. Big king size bed.

The bathroom was smelling awful and out of date. Even tho it was clean, there were many parts that were old, rusty or corners with lime or mold that noone took care of. The smell came from the shower and sink drainers that I would recommend the hotel to use some drainer detergent. We had to buy some air freshener spray. Also don't expect much from the decoration or the quality of the furniture.

Great little place in the town centre

Our room was much larger than expected. Everything was spotlessly clean.

As others have commented, lift is very slow. Toilet seat was broken.
