We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Barbar’s house. The House was spotless with new towels, shower curtains and linens. We loved mornings and evenings on the porch with the cool Maine breeze. The wireless connection was great and helpful due to poor Verizon coverage. It was the perfect location - quiet street and close to town. Walking distance to everything. Great stay!

We have been staying in this property for 2-3 weeks in August for many years and have enjoyed it very much. The Coopers have done a superb job of resurrecting this house and turning it into a guest quarters in which a family can spread out and find everything it needs for comfort and convenience. Castine has much to offer the summer visitor: a pretty harbor and access to the Bagaduce River, which is ideal for kayaking; sailing in Smith Cove and out the harbor mouth into Penobscot Bay; tennis and golf; easy access to Blue Hill with its many shops and restaurants including probably the best bookstore in Maine and the Kneisel Hall summer concert series; and a fairly easy drive to Ellsworth and to Acadia. The town is situated on a peninsula away from the heavy Acadia-bound traffic, has a beautiful Federal period town green and many beautiful old houses, and has a fascinating history, having been occupied by five nations (native Americans, Dutch, French, English, and European-Americans) and being the site of the disastrous Penobscot naval expedition of June 1779 under the American Commodore Dudley Saltonstall, in which Paul Revere played a minor and distinctly unheroic part. The two museums in town, the Wilson Museum and the Castine Historical Society museum, are both worth a detour. It's a great town for walking about and exploring. The Maine Maritime Academy, together with its ship the State of Maine which looms over the harbor, provide additional interest. The owners are extremely conscientious about maintaining the property and go out of their way to make guests feel at home.
