About this villa rental

Perched on the edge of a remote coral atoll, Sand So Sea offers an exceptional getaway on Great Guana Cay, an outer island of the Grand Abacos. This hand-crafted Bahamian villa is situated on a bluff providing spectacular views of the turquoise stretches of the Bay of Abaco, Scotland Cay, and the Atlantic Ocean.

The house itself is 2800 square feet comprised of three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, each with it's own independent entrance, indoor and outdoor living/dining areas, a bedroom and bathroom. With natural wood finishes, custom cabinets, and marine grade fittings, the space is like a "ship on land" and has been crafted for comfort and efficiency. We have an automatic generator that runs all the functions of the house in case there is loss of power.

The wrap around deck effectively doubles the living space, with 300 degree views of water, stretching from the Bay of Abaco on the west all the way to the Atlantic Ocean to the immediate east. From the deck, enjoy dazzling sunrises each morning, and from the dock, flaming sunsets over the bay.

Great Guana Cay's miles of white powder beaches begin just a few minutes walk from Sand So Sea, and are so isolated that often the only footsteps in the sand will be yours. Additionally, there are both inner and outer coral reefs that run the length of Guana Cay. If you love snorkeling, swimming, diving, kayaking, boating or fishing, all of it is accessible by foot, golf cart, boat or kayak.

The settlement of Great Guana is located about 2 miles west of the house. A tiny outcropping with a population of under 200 people, the settlement hugs Guana Harbour and has a grocery, rental agencies for boats and tours, and several restaurants boasting colorful beach bars.

This is a unique property and we hope you will find, as we do, that it is a shatteringly beautiful place and that it will provide you with the getaway of a lifetime.

Please note that we book up to a year in advance, but reserve the right to defer beyond that, as rates may need to change from year to year.

Incredible! Everything associated with our stay was exceptional. Dana is terrific and ensured we had everything we needed. Her team Gina and Ronald on the island made sure our check-in was easy and were available to help during our stay as well. The home is amazing. Beautifully done and the wrap around views of the Ocean, cove between Guana and Scotland, as well as the Sea of Abaco are spectacular. Daily walks on the beach are a few minutes away by Golf Cart and the same beach access offers great snorkeling! We cannot say enough positive things about our stay. Stay at Sand So Sea any chance you get!

Exceptional property. Incredible views from everywhere. Very well maintained with privacy for all guests. Luxury finishes and all the modern conveniences. The owner is easy to work with and very responsive. The drive to the grocery was about 10 minutes which was not a problem. Follow the owners recommendation as to cart rentals as you will need a gas cart and the road is a little bumpy in spots. Overall a fantastic week. Highly recommend.

We had a very relaxing stay at Dolphin Lookout. The property is exactly as described in the many reviews we read before booking - it has an outstanding location at the Southern tip of Guana Cay, looking over to Scotland Cay, with fabulous views from the deck. The property itself is small, more like a studio apartment, but as spacious as a nice hotel suite. And there is plenty of space on the deck to just sit/lie down and chill. We tended to eat out at lunch time and relax at Dolphin Lookout in the evenings, and take a night cap sitting under a palm tree and marvel at the night sky (tip: use starwalker app or similar on ipad to see what all those constellations are). Our strategy of staying home paid off on new year's eve, when the beach on Scotland Cay hosted an elaborate 20-minute firework display at 9pm. They must be a family friendly lot on that private island to have the fireworks so early, and we were certainly grateful for what felt like a show put on just for us at Dolphin Lookout! We enjoyed leaving the blinds open and waking up to glorious dawn skies. Our pilates teacher would have been proud of us as every day we strolled down to the boat dock and did our "boat dock" pilates session - always on the look out for Bob the Barracuda, who often turned up as we arrived. The restaurants are not outstanding, nor should they be when you consider the constraints of island life, but we were not disappointed. We particularly enjoyed eating at Orchid Bay. I would say they had the best and friendliest service and the verandah is lovely to sit on and watch all the boating activity as you dine. The wifi worked very well, and we put it to good use, not for browsing, but for listening to Spotify using the aux cable connected to the mini hi-fi system. We also had a few movie nights on Netflix and again used the aux cable, to deliver a nice surround-sound experience. It's certainly a good idea to buy groceries at Marsh Harbor as the local store is very limited but does have all the basics. But the best place to buy dinner is straight from the dock near the liquor store. We didn't have enough cash one day and the the local ATM was closed for business (i.e. Grabbers) - but we were able to buy some nice large cray fish tails for $6 and three bottles of local beer! Our favourite activity was just to relax and enjoy the stunning Cay Sera beach where we hardly saw another soul. A fabulous escape.
