Beautiful hotel, great location, excellent staff, especially Rafael in the restaurant.

The hotel is beautiful and is in a perfect location for exploring the old city. The rooftop pool was a real bonus and a perfect place to enjoy the sunshine at the end of a busy day!

The staff were welcoming and helpful but their attitude towards certain things made us feel like we were criminals! We paid for the entire stay upfront and were then told to the extent that we incurred any extra charges we needed to come to reception daily to settle them - I have never had this at a hotel before and it is completely standard to pay any additional charges upon checkout. A letter was posted through our door on the second day informing us we had incurred around £60 of charges (which isnt much considering the price of the room, which we had paid upfront) and needed to come to reception to pay them as soon as possible. We were checking out the next morning and of course paid the full amount on checkout, which we would have always done and the letter stuck through our door felt very unnecessary. Upon checkout, the staff immediately check our room and stalled us while doing so, I assume to check whether we had anything from the mini bar etc. I was then interrogated about there only being one towel in the room (the inference being that I had stolen a towel, which I clearly had not) which sadly put a dampener on the end of our trip. There are several other examples of this sort of attitude from the staff during my four night stay, and it is not the sort of treatment you except anywhere, but especially a luxury hotel at this price point.

The hotel is in an anciet monastery, it has the typical architecture. The room was big, very clean and comfortable. The staff very kind and available. If I will come back to Cartegena, I know where to stay.
