8 / 10Excellent·Oct 2026
Casa del Lago is ideally situated a couple of blocks from the harbour, pier and the town's many cafes and restaurants. Breakfast is great, with fruit, yogurt, cereal, eggs and toast all washed down with fruit juice and coffee. Liz is great, helpful and ready to assist with travel plans if needed. My room was spacious and well equipped with an outside area to sit and watch the world go by.
The only downsides for me were the wifi that was non-existent in my room - I had to go out onto the balcony for a signal and also the hostel is located on a crossroads where traffic can be quite noisy at the weekend.

The gardens and architecture were delightful! Breakfast was yummy. Bed sheets and pillows were the nicest we've had in 3 months throughout SA. Staff were very helpful with organising taxis for us and held a bag when we went on a tour. We were very grateful to be able to check in quite early when getting off an early ferry from another island. Overall a charming place, thanks to the host.
We had the most basic room which was a bit dark and some windows are fly screens so the AC has to work pretty hard (but the room does still cool down). The shower was a bit tricky to get it between super hot or cold. We were still happy to stay here twice, so these items were pretty minor.
