Lascar Catargiu Villa

We stayed with our extended family (Total 15 people) in two apartments - one with three bedrooms (Apt1) and the other with four (Apt2). The location is excellent, and communication with the host, both before and during the trip, was excellent. The apartments are nice; they are old but well renovated and maintained. There are a lot of stairs and NO ELEVATOR in the building- something I hadn't noticed in the listing description, which proved problematic for the elderly members of our family (aged 70+), who ended up moving to a hotel, as well as for the younger children. The breakfast and parking offered at the nearby Mercure Hotel were good.

There is no elevator in the building, and there are many stairs (about 60!) leading up to Apartment 2. It is not recommended if you have a lot of luggage (as we had). The water pressure in the showers was weak and inconsistent, though we experienced similar issues throughout our trip to Romania. Privacy - some of the apartments windows are really close to each other. The parking and breakfast offered were good, but keep in mind that they are located about 600 meters from the hotel—a walk of a few minutes.

The property was spacious and clean.

My family and I stayed in the three-bedroom apartment at Villa Lascar Catargiu, and we had a wonderful experience. The apartment itself looks exactly as it does in the photographs. It was exceptionally clean, with beautiful décor, very high ceilings, and the character you would expect from such a lovely old Bucharest villa. We stayed in July during several extremely hot days, with temperatures approaching 100°F (38°C), so the air-conditioning was very much appreciated. I am not particularly bothered by hot weather, but my husband certainly is, and he thoroughly enjoyed coming back from walking around Bucharest in the summer heat to the wonderfully cool living room and common areas. The air-conditioning kept the apartment extremely comfortable throughout our stay. Although the villa is located on a very busy boulevard and two of the bedrooms in our apartment face the street, we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was inside. The thick walls of the old villa buffered the street noise remarkably well. The villa offers more than one apartment for rent, but the three-bedroom apartment we stayed in is the upstairs unit. It is reached by a fairly steep staircase and there is no elevator. Fortunately, we had two men in our group who carried all of our luggage up and down—and we had quite a lot of it after doing plenty of shopping in Bucharest and elsewhere in Romania! This was not a problem for us, but it is something guests considering the upstairs apartment may want to keep in mind, especially if they have very heavy luggage. The location is also excellent. Villa Lascar Catargiu is within a short walk of Calea Victoriei and many of the landmarks and attractions in central Bucharest, making it very convenient for exploring the city on foot. Check-in instructions were very clear, and all communication with the staff was prompt, professional, and helpful. We absolutely recommend Villa Lascar Catargiu and would be very happy to stay here again the next time!!!
