Staff were fantastic. The suite with direct access to the natural swimming pool was a real pleasure.

We ate in the bistro garden in the evening and it was a beautiful setting, great service at the table, lovely cocktails but all let down by the staters/main courses. At this price point I would definitely expect more than ‘auberge’ style food. I’m sure it was a good example of what was acceptable at a local level but to me it was basic food. The lamb was tasteless and wrapped in leathery aubergine. The shallow small plate of risotto was sickly after a few spoonfuls. It was a real let down and R&L need to offer a much better international menu. There are numerous local restaurants if you want that experience.

All of the staff were really helpful and kind.

The pool area is tired. Rusty beds & dirty cushions. I never saw a member of staff cleaning the area either, which meant when you lay face down, you just saw hair and dirt over the floor. Breakfast buffet was on a first come first serve, so if you went later on as they weren't replenishing items, you'd be missing out. Also, every day is exactly the same, no change in breakfast. Gym is the worst 5* hotel gym I've ever come across, seems there was a lack of interest when putting it together 10+ years ago. The hotel owner and her dog tended to appear, almost as if she was judging both her staff and us, the guests. This makes for an uncomfortable situation. The chairs and dining tables in the outside restaurant look like something from a cheap 2* hotel, in addition, random photos of chickens and other animals really mean the aesthetic of this hotel is so confused, is it a childs farmyard or a 5* hotel?
