Nice hotel on the hill, beware if you do not have a car

The Berghotel has a beautiful view of the Lake and is truly a mountain hotel. I was there with my son and he really enjoyed the petting zoo every morning as well as the playground. The beds were very comfy. The restaurant had great food. Zell am see is an amazing location with lots of activities if you have kids!

We weren't given the option of the buffet or half board, which would have been nice. Not sure if that was booking.com or the establishment itself, but it felt quite unfriendly as we had to pay quite a lot of money for the restaurant with not that much choice for a longer stay. Due to that, we were also given a table which was not the best, with no views of the lake, while peiople that had half board were allowed to dine and have breakfast in that room. We were given no explanation and whenever we had questions the staff was quite short. The venue had a donkey, chickens and a horse which my son loved, but we were given no instructions about what do not-not do, nor was it in any of the hotel information. Furthermore, when my son went to ask for more leftovers for the animals, the staff rudely told him they didn't have any. For a hotel which advertises itself as children friendly, this was a bit disappointing... Lastly, the hotel was beyond reach of the local transport! As we did not have a car, getting there was very expensive, despite it being in Zell am See. Then whenever we went hiking or anything in the area, we had to be back by sunset as otherwise the hike between the last bus stop and the hotel took over half an hour. This limited our choice in the evenings... This is not well explained on booking.com or when you view the hotel. Shame, as the place has some great facilities and I am sure would be a wonderful stay if it weren't for the lack of public transport and the unfriendly staff.

Fantastic family run hotel in beautiful surroundings - Highly Recommend

We had a wonderful week at The Berghotel Jaga-Alm. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel was spotlessly clean. On arrival our name was on the welcome board outside and we were offered a slight room upgrade, which was very much appreciated as the view was absolutely stunning - lake, forest and ski slopes all in one. We had breakfast in the hotel on a few days. There was lots of choice available, mainly cold (meats, cheese, cereals, pastries) but you could make your own eggs on a hot plate which we took advantage of. Coffee was fantastic too. We ate in the hotel every evening and we thoroughly enjoyed every meal we had and the accompanying beer/wine. We used the spa a couple of times, which was well set out and tranquil, although not as relaxing as we wished for as on both times a guest was in there tapping away on a laptop! We would highly recommend The Berghotel Jaga-Alm and hope one day to return.

The personal is extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner are very good. The location is perfect for mountain hiking. It’s up the hill, a car is helpful to reach other destinations. There is a very nice outdoor pool. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Great view!

The hotel has a stunning lake view. The room is very clean and well-maintained. The pool and wellness area are gorgeous. The staff in every department are really kind, friendly and caring. Breakfast is good, but dinner is fabulous. We did not do the all inclusive, we ordered a la carte, everything is so delicious especially meat dishes sauerkraut! We will definitely come back here again.
