The staff were very helpful but only thing that let them down was the communication between shifts. We had booked to night seperatly and asked to stay in the same room , still had to go ask the next day to book back in.

Absolutely fantastic location and family friendly!

The staff are absolutely amazing and exceptional in the service they offer. The room was big and had the most amazing bath that was fantastic to relax in. The whole venue is picture perfect. I got it on discount for a superior king room and for the sale price it was worth it. I did find the restaurant expensive and breakfast wasn't great but overall I'd highly recommend.

The breakfast food wasn't to our liking but there was more than enough to choose from.

Cosy and comfortable

The hotel is clean and comfortable with an older style vibe . The swimming pool and leisure facilities are very nice .

Cold breakfast room, breakfast ok but for price of room felt it could have been higher quality . Some areas in hotel need upgraded and chipped paintwork etc could do with being sorted .

I am really struaaggling to understand why this is a 4* hotel. After checking in everything went down hill. I feel this hotel has falsely advertised both accommodation and facilities available, pictures online show the old part of the original hotel and not the add on where we unfortunatelv had to stay. The carpets in general were filthy and worn in places The initial room we were given was mouldy and smelly, i brought this to reception attention who quite frankly couldnt have cared less despite telling them my partner has a chronic lung condition and my granddaughter is asthmatic, i found any interaction with the staff was met with an uncaring and unfriendly attitude. We were eventually moved the next day despite asking several times for a different room that night and available rooms showing online. Following room also had very bad odour and carpet; was bunched up in middle causing my 7yr old granddaughter to trip constantly, (couldnt avoid this as the 'family room' was very small,) this was also brought to receptionists attention but nothing was done. Windows in general were filthy and did not appear to have been cleaned in some time, curtains and drapes in room very stained and window locks broken,(we were on the second floor.) Went for dinner on the first night, food was mediocre but at least hot. There was no option for bar . snacks such as sandwiches. toasties etc unless vou wanted a muffin or crisps. The conservatory where breakfast was served was freezing cold each day we were there and food available was luke warm and sparse. By the time we were seated the food was cold. There was only one day where a breakfast staff member was at the desk in the room to greet us on our arrival, we waited 10mins+ to be seated and eventually seated ourselves. No spa treatments were available despite it being advertised as a spa hotel other than the sauna, steam room and pool.

It was trading on past glory- not live up to its name as leisure and spa resort!

Room offered awful. Not superior as selected on booking.com! Had to pay more for room shown in app photo. It was in old tower. Dusty old place not well cleaned hall. Deserted. Creepy. When finally up 37 steps- the suite was acceptable. Spa pool was TINY with murky water and gym equipment rusty and old. Did not live up to expectations and the lovely garden had long been neglected. Hope the new owners do better.

Good location and nice grounds

The hotel has recently changed hands and everything seems to be an extra cost now. Parking, swimming pool, gym and steam room are no longer included in the cost. The hotel is looking shabby. The carpets are worn and a bit grubby. The paint on the walls is marked and chipped. The silicone around the bath and grout on the tiles need scraped out and replaced as they are a bit mouldy. The room I was in was tiny and it’s not a particularly nice looking hotel.

Four rooms on a hen party

Beautiful house away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Dinner at the maze restaurant was brilliant although the conservatory was not being used we were allowed to have a table there as we were a large group.

It was about £13-£15 per way into the city from the hotel. when booking with Booking.com, we arrived to the hotel and they only had half of the reservation 2 out of 4 rooms had been booked . Thankfully, the hotel was able to still accommodate us. Eating in the conservatory was cold and we had less service as everyone seem to eat in the main building. I feel that this is such a shame due to how beautiful the conservatory is.

Parking Charges and Lack of Staff

Clean and comfortable.

Charging for parking at the hotel - regardless of cost - is ridiculous. There is nowhere else suitable near the hotel to park and they have taken advantage of this to introduce parking charges. There was clearly insufficient staff in the bar/restaurant areas. This led to long waits for food, or even simply to order a drink at the bar. There was also insufficient reception staff, and they spent most of their time dealing with enquiries from guest rather than just checking guests in. It is clear that the hotel is looking to maximise profits, while reducing levels of service far too much. For those reasons I will not be returning.

0 disability awareness. Totally clueless. Booked a suite but it was on the second floor only to be told they don't have a lift !!! No aids to help in bathroom. No air con they have turned it off to save money. Shower gels were cheap and nasty. Soap brackets still on the wall but no soap dispenser!!. Obviously cost cutting. Don't mention all fag butt's by the door disgusting. Bar was supposed to stay open until 11 midweek ,just shut it at 10!! Not value for money, bit cheap and tacky. If your disabled forget it. And no were not serial complainers just have standards

I cannot recommend highly enough

We booked in with 2 separate bookings running concurrently . We should have had to move from an executive king to a double after the first night but we were upgraded for our total stay so all 3 nights. Amazing staff

Some of the staff were nice. Bed was OK. There is a pool (which I didn’t use).

No wifi. After asking: at has been off for a week. And the hotel needs an upgrade and some paint. Shower was fountaining water all over the place. Breakfast is very very basic. With dirty cutlery and dishes. And did I say “no wifi”? No wifi. How is that even possible.

Beautiful property let down by the standards and services offered on this occasion.

The property is stunning, the gardens and the Spa/ Gym facilities are great. Lots of parking and good size rooms. The staff were doing their best of a bad situation.

The Wifi was down for my entire visit, the restaurant was fully booked out for both days, although I did manage to eat at the bar on the 2nd night. I wish I hadn't though as there were dead bugs floating in the sauce on my mash! It has to be said, I have stayed here a few times and its never been this bad, but overall disappointed with m visit.

Beautiful estate with excellent views of the water!

The room had a beautiful view! We really enjoyed the good weather that we had. We walked around the property in the morning after breakfast. We had dinner and breakfast on site. The food was really good. They offered several vegetarian and gluten-free options for those with special dietary needs. The staff were all very friendly. The lady that checked us in at night asked us if we were planning on eating dinner and we said yes. She quickly ran to the restaurant to put our name in for a table then came back and took our luggage behind the desk and asked us to check-in after dinner so we could eat before they closed. We were thankful that she thought about that.

If I had a complaint, it would be that the water pressure drops in the shower if you have it and the sink running at the same time. Other people flushing their toilet would cause a rush of hot water into the shower also. These are the worst things I could think of.

Easy to get to and an all round nice stay

The location off the motorway was easy to get to and get back on the motorway when we left. The food at the restaurant was amazing and worth the money. The walk around the gardens was lovely and sitting outside with a coffee was nice and relaxing. The facilities at the hotel were great and very clean. The staff were very helpful and pleasant when we asked for anything. I would recommend this hotel and I'm sure I'll be back at some point.

The pillows weren't the comfiest for me but my friend liked them which is just a preference thing.

Room too dark, window too small and mattress lumpy and uncomfortable. Swimming pool very small, breakfast very basic. Food menu very dated and overpriced. WiFi not working. Need to paying for car parking. The pictures show the back of the hotel and are a bit misleading.

Pleasant comfortable room with good shower and beds.

Comfortable and in a good position for a roadtrip stop over.

The pay for parking is done through an app. The WiFi at hotel wasn’t working which makes it difficult to pay for parking which if you don’t costs you £100. Asked if they could do it for me and was told know. Seeming we were on overseas roaming charges this made it difficult but eventually sorted it out at my extra cost. Wish we had been informed about this when booking the room.

The location was perfect for my needs, the hotel staff were really friendly and plenty parking was available, although I never used the restaurant or leisure facilities it seemed quite popular, the room was clean and comfortable and I’d definitely stay again

Parts of the hotel were tired looking/needing a revamp age but its the best ‘older’ Scottish hotel I’ve stayed in for a long time
