Clean old-school hotel

Good location. Clean.

No clear instructions with parking. $25/ day was reasonable but had very tight car spaces.

We enjoyed our stay here.

It is a very nice hotel and our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was huge and modern. There is parking (which we needed to pay for) in a multi-story adjoining building.

The check-in queue was a bit slow but the staff were friendly and helpful.

The beds weren’t to bad. Room service staff.

Long line for check-in; we waited over an hour. Don't eat anything from the restaurant. We ordered a burger and a pizza from room service. The food was awful. 😞 We weren't expecting this experience at a 5-star hotel. The next morning, we were in a hurry and ordered two croissants to go from the bar; they ended up in the gas station bin. The worst hotel we've stayed in Auckland.

4 night stay

After a 25 hr flight, we were looking forward to rest & recuperate. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would look to return should we be so lucky to visit Auckland again. Staff were welcoming & friendly, giving good advice throughout the hotel. Our room was exceptionally clean & the most comfortable of beds. Breakfast was plentiful, so much choice & evening meal in the Ember was delicious.

No negatives at all .

standard of service and overall finish of the hotel itself does not quite live up to the grandeur

The location right at the top of the CBD is fantastic, and I can imagine certain rooms would have excellent views over downtown Auckland. The nearby public parking lot was easy to find, and within walking distance of the hotel. The room was huge and clean, bed comfortable. The bar and lounge area in the foyer was cool and a nice feature.

The room was clean but a little worn around the edges. In particular the air condition operating panel had such worn keycaps that the didn't "catch" on the underlying mechanics, and made it impossible to operate. By yanking them off, you can pinch a hold of the potentiometers underneath and turn them that way. The reception offered to control the AC remotely from their controls, and it proved a whole thing... We slept over the scheduled pass from house keeping, and when we requested later on the day that housekeeping make up the room as we left the hotel we were told that house keeping will do so "at once" (exact words). When we got back in the evening they had not been there. Additionally, the reception made a lot of fuzz out of letting us use the staircase over the elevator, but eventually sorted it out for us. Pool is indoor, rather small, and -- the day we were there -- full of playing families with children.

Good location, comfortable stay,

This hotel revealed the remnants of its former grandeur, with its age evident in the carpets, hallways, and landings. The rooms were clean and comfortable, offering all the standard amenities. However, for over $250 per night, I would have expected a coffee machine in the room rather than just instant coffee sachets. We did not dine at the restaurant for dinner or breakfast, so I can't comment on the food, but we enjoyed an excellent coffee and pastry during check-out. Convenient overnight parking alongside the hotel at a subsidized rate for hotel guests was appreciated.

Rooms need a coffee pod machine or French press. This hotel revealed the remnants of its former grandeur, with its age evident in the carpets, hallways, and landings. A freshen up in these areas wouldn't go a miss.

Huge bathroom. Big room in general.

Upkeep and general attention to detail needs work. For example - all the metal railings in the elevators needed to be polished and wiped. Finger marks and general ‘blurring’ evident in all three elevators.

The cafe was totally understaffed. I waited 45 minutes waiting for a coffee as only one girl was serving the morning rush alone while some old guy stood there and watched. Ended up paying 70 dollars for 2 soy lattes and to bottled water

The egg options in breakfast were disappointing. Also staff who check you in for breakfast are sometimes not helpful. They charged us for breakfast for first day even though it was included without checking with reception. Thankfully staff at reception caught the mistake and fixed it

Location was great - very close to everything and attractions in Auckland CBD. Room was exceptional - it was spacious, clean, comfortable and just very homely. Loved it! Staff at reception were excellent as well - super efficient to say the least.

My memorable stay

The location of the hotel is excellent. It is within walking distance to everything in the CBD. Hotel staff were extremely helpful. We had an issue with the room lighting the first couple of nights, the issue was resolved on the second night and we were moved to a different room with better facilities.

Buffet breakfast was nice. However, it would have been much better to introduce and/or provide other variety rather than just the same thing every day.

First longer stay in Auckland. Would have stayed in another area if I knew the city better

nice pool and they handled the fire alarm situation very well. Parking was good value.

Check in was laborious. Location was actually quite challenging, but that was also due to the large amount of construction going on around the area. Also the temperature in the room was hard to control. Far too hot at one point!

Comfortable Couple Stay-cay

Comfy bed, clean room & facilities that were well set up and stocked, good sky channel selection, although a back room - still a good view from the 7th floor, breakfast buffet was amazing - great food and beverage selections, walking distance to Kiri Te Kanawa Centre, Water front, Sky tower & Queen Street, gym, pool and sauna a great touch to our stay, carparking code available with concierge.

Outdated hallways carpets, some hallways very dark, exposed wiring/power boxes on 7th floor (panels removed), pool was a little murky, lack of pool towel signage.
