The Forge

The location was excellent in a lovely village in a quiet spot. The accomodation is well proportioned and had a large comfortable living room with good WiFi. The views from the bedroom are fantastic. It was clean and catered well for dogs with bowels and a treat basket. We also loved the dog walks which had laminated well crafted written directions for.

It would be nice to have a few disposible items like foil, salt and hand soap in the bathroom.

We were told about the narrow lanes but they really were dangerous. I was in a mini and still felt slightly wary.

The bed was very comfortable, so a good nights sleep was a plus and the bathroom was really good too. There are plenty of books, DVDs and games for any rainy days and evenings. There was enough kitchen equipment for the stay, however, please see the “What didn’t you like” box. It was a very nice touch leaving the “goodies” for both us and our dog.

On arrival, the area around was a bit like a building site with 3-4 vans as there was an extension being built on the main house. We had to move our car while unloading because a lorry arrived to deliver building materials. The oven was unfit to use because it was so dirty, I emailed the property to ask how we got this resolved but, as yet (and we are now home), we have received no reply. Although there was enough cooking equipment, we had to clean pots and pans before we could use them (a frying pan was really greasy and saucepans were not fully cleaned). The bathroom bin was still half full from the last people who were there and the dog poo bag bin outside was also half full. We both found the settees very uncomfortable, we are not in any bad health ourselves, but someone with back problems would definitely find them a problem after a while. There were cobwebs in the bedroom and the lounge, so could be a bit cleaner. There is no door from the hall to the lounge or the landing to the bedroom and there was quite a draft coming in from the front door, this meant we needed to have the heating up more than would be normal. Lastly, a little more information to let people know that it is really out in the sticks would be good on the website.
