Friendly helpful staff. The pub has a lovely old traditional feel. To access our room for the night you go through a door from the street, up a flight of stairs and then along a corridor to our room. The room was small but clearly loved. Decorated nicely. The bed was very comfy. The tea, coffee etc supplied was appreciated. There’s a lack of space to put things due to the size of the room but they’ve supplied shelving, hanging space etc where possible.
The bathroom was our problem with this accomodation. There were no hooks, shelves, rails, handles or anything to put towels or toiletries on. There were fixtures on the wall where there had clearly been a rail or shelf but it presumably broke and has been removed. Even the two plastic cups and hand wash are on the pipe covering near the floor resulting in a wet floor when trying to get some soap when washing hands. It could do with a shower corner tray above the sink to put the hand wash and toothbrush cup on. It needs hooks or a rail to put wet towels on above the radiator. The biggest issue in the bathroom is the size of the shower. I honestly didn’t know they make one so small. To use it you have to turn the water on and rotate slowly. Switch the water off and open the doors to give you space to lather up. Close doors and switch water back on and rotate slowly to rinse off. I still managed to bang both elbows on the walls and catch the water control with my arm so I changed the temperature suddenly. Sorry if anyone heard a yelp! There’s enough room in the bathroom that a slightly larger shower would have been a squeeze but possible. The one there really is too small. If they could improve this we would happily stay again.

I liked everything about the Spice Ship. Excellent staff, comfy room and great food served at a great value. It was busy on a Tuesday, always a great sign, and I really enjoyed my time there.

That we had a good breakfast, and also our evening meals in the pub.
We could bring our dog.
The room was so small, no wardrobe, but a little rail to hang our coats

Room was pleasant and clean.
Considering it is a pub, the rooms were fairly quiet and the noise from the bar quite muted.
The staff were lovely especially the bar/front of house staff.
The bar cleaner was really sweet, I felt very guilty walking my outdoor shoes over her very nicely mopped floor!
Breakfast could've been better, cooked breakfast was a little disappointing. It all felt a bit pre cooked then warmed up so very average. Not awful just not brilliant. Bathroom was starting to look a bit tired, grout needed a bit of a spruce up maybe but we were out of season and short notice so this may already be planned.

The traffic on the road outside overnight, but soon got used to it and it didn’t affect my sleep.

A little bit quirky feeling as if you were inside a tall ship. The staff were all very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was great, as was the lamb off the specials menu for dinner.
I don’t feel there was anything that was negative about the property.

The shower was excellent, nice and powerful. Infact the shower room was a good size. We were expecting something smaller due to reading previous reviews. The whole room was lovely and clean with a nice selection of teas and coffees. The towels and bedding were spotless. The bed was comfortable.
We had Sunday roast beef dinner which was really nice and the portions were extremely big - we really could have done with a childs portion as we found it difficult to move afterwards! No room for pudding!
The location was pretty good with a bus stop right outside the front door. Would definitely stay here again.
Only downside to the room was the lack of space on one side of the bed which made it difficult to get in and out of for one of us.
The toaster at breakfast time took quite a while and sometimes only toasted the centre of the bread.
The ingredients of our first breakfast weren't very nice, but second and third breakfast were a lot better and cooked better.
We weren't offered juices on two days. Unfortunately, had to chase staff for things like decaff tea, coffee and bread as these weren't refilled regularly. However, the staff were happy to provide them when asked.

the staff were friendly, the room was comfortable and clean but sleeping in that room was like sleeping in lay-by. As the pub was positioned next to a very busy A road! had we known this, there would be no way we would have stayed there; perhaps it was our fault not to have delved into the situation more carefully. Even at 3 am there were fast ,noisy traffic going right underneath the window!! The breakfast too, was a disappointment.
Having said all that , the pub , as a pub was wonderful. the ales on tap were wonderful , the decor and atmosphere were superb, it truly lived up to its name! We may stop over again for a pint but noway will we ever consider staying the night!
please refer to the notes above.

All the staff at The Spice Ship were very friendly and went above and beyond their duty to accommodate as best they could in making our stay comfortable, especially a big thank you to Laura, she was amazing!
The bar and restaurant was great, lovely atmosphere, and the food was delicious with a great menu choice.
The cooked breakfast was nice but the breakfast layout was overall disappointing, it would have been nice to have had a choice of continental such as fruit and yoghurt etc. The coffee machine and the toaster need to be upgraded.
We didn't like that all the rooms are dog friendly, the room we were given smelt very strong of dogs, so were given an upgrade to a lovely room but sadly that even had a slight dog smell. We have been to other B&B's that are also dog friendly, but have rooms that are dog free.
The road is very noisy at night.

Nice small touches on extras in the room.
It’s a pub I get it, but the doors bang frequently down stairs and it’s very noisy until after 11pm. Also the main road is on top of the room so it’s not peaceful, this was explained and I accept it’s difficult to resolve.

Friendly staff.
Breakfast quite good apart from bacon, which was dry and overdone.
Access to room up steep and narrow staircase, difficult to negotiate with a heavy suitcase.
Room was very small, with no space to put an open suitcase.
On main road. Traffic noise all night.
Small shower cubicle.
Dining room very dark and dreary.
Bacon was burnt.

Location for us was perfect as we were visiting family and was only a 10 min walk through the fields, if wanting to go into Weymouth would be about a 30-40 min walk which we do not mind. Lovely little pub, food and staff were great. Rooms are a little small but when away you don't spend much time in anyway, were very clean.
The only small issue we had was with the parking on one of the days, we had to drive to a party as a taxi was 30 minute wait and when we got back we could not park. We had to park down the road until a space become available.

Great breakfast
Great location for town and beach
Stayed here to visit family in Haven Seaview, just a 5 mins walk
The evening entertainment was very loud and you wouldn't be able to sleep until it was over. I was happy to join in but beware if you want an early night!

Nice old pub small bedroom but pleasent.
Karaoke which was so loud the glasses on the chest of draws were bouncing, we didn't get much sleep and then to top that no running water and the pub was flooded so we had to skip breakfast and leave early. Not worth the money.

Room was small but just to sleep was perfectly adequate. The bed so was so soft you turned over and nearly rolled out but that’s just our preference. Abit more tlc on the bathroom housework few stray pubes lurking around
I didn’t dislike anything & would stay again

The spice ship offered beautiful but compact rooms.
Lovely touches such as earplugs and eye masks as well as good provision of tea and coffee, my daughter especially liked the hot chocolate and biscuits.
Staff were friendly and paid attention to detail making the stay extra special.
Breakfast was nice and nothing was too much.
Would definitely return here in the future!
Car park could get busy at times however we were lucky to find a space each night.
Stairs to room was ok however tight trying to get suitcase up. Staff did offer to assist if needed which was nice.
Rooms were hot but fan was provided which helped.

The room and en suite we had (Portland) has been recently refurbished to a very good standard.
It had an large TV and we were not expecting the small breakfast bar/kitchenette which was really useful.
The pub had good food and we had breakfast included which was excellent.
The beer garden and covered area was very nice and there are music events that we intend to visit.
Nothing, we liked it all

The room was really nicely decorated, with a good array of tea and coffee, bed and pillows also comfy. The location is also great for visiting Durdle Door and Weymouth. The lady at check in was nice.
The room was SO hot, even with the window cracked and the fan on. The staff at dinner seemed disinterested, didn't have any cocktail ingredients, and gave us dirty glasses. There wasn't anyone at check out after waiting so we had to drop the key and go.

The ship theme in the bar had a nice warm touch and family feel.
Bed, towels and toilet were clean and overall cosy vibe.
Showers were very quick to heat up and hot.
Not total negative but as an improvement to have a mini fridge or ice bucket would be a nice to have in the rooms.
A lot of calcium in the bottle of complimentary tap water.
Coffee and tea in the morning tasted stale.
Shower drained really slowly, so had to turn off before it overflowed.

Lovely breakfast and convenient location with buses to Weymouth town centre nearby.
The single room I stayed in was good, but it has an awkward corner where there is a clothes hanging frame, the base of which juts out too much and could be easily modified to take up less of the floor space.
