About this house rental

The Hula Hut is really much more than a hut. It's a private, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home located exactly 1-mile south of Kailua-Kona town. Decorated in a fun, relaxed, island-style funkiness, this home comfortably accommodates up to 6 people in a tropical living style. It's an easy walk to town where you can enjoy your morning coffee or a sunset cocktail at Huggo's on the Rocks or shop at the open-air farmer's market in downtown Kona.

Enjoy the spectacular sunsets or explore the many tidepools on the lava shelf landing at the end of our private street. Commercial dive boats are often spotted here, rumor has it that some of the best diving on the island is right here! Relax by your own private pool and swim with the turtles! Take in the ocean view while lounging on the large lanai, cooled by the trade breezes.

The house is situated on one level, has 3 bedrooms, one with a Queen-sized bed and 2 with a california king bed, air-conditioning, expansive wrap-around lanai (complete with beautiful ocean view!,) 2 bathrooms, each with a tub-shower. Hardwood floors throughout and ceiling fans in the common living spaces. High Speed wireless internet access. Fully equipped kitchen, linens provided. Pick your own mangos for your breakfast or a tropical cocktail, from our 2 huge Hayden mango trees(when in season).

Great location and great set up. Our family had a great time staying in Kona and at the HulaHut. An easy walk to a black sands beach where you can watch the sunrise and sunsets, or walk to downtown for drinks and food. The host was easy to talk to and responded timely. I stayed here with my family for IM race week and it was the most amazing perfect homebase especially with three younger kids (ages 6,6, and 11). It is a great location close to town and right on the run course. The pool was a hit with the kids and so great to have, they all had fun playing in it for hours a day. They also loved running down the street to the lava rock beach at the end of the lane to watch the sunsets and the sunset views were also spectacular from the house. The house is a fun boho vibe and very homey feeling. Communications with Jill were easy and she was very responsive. It's a beautiful property. I would definitely stay here again!

This house was a surprise. The pics make it look a little older than it is. We expected a rental with older furniture and facilities. We found a well-loved and very well-maintained home, with new air conditioners and the cleanest pool we've ever used that required no heating and therefore no extra fees. Every evening we walked to see the sunset at the end of the street. Communication with the property manager was excellent. Finally, if you're doing any island tours, all the operators know the Royal Wyndham resort right next door, so pick-up and drop-offs are also very easy. There are a few things to bear in mind: it's near a main road, which can be noisy. The house is well situated so the noise was not a big deal & we quickly acclimatized. The fruit is seasonal (of course) so don't expect to have a crate of free mangos the year round. You will have to sign a separate (and pretty straightforward) agreement directly with the owners, which I dislike but who knows what kind of issues they've had in the past? Strangely, the entire house is very well stocked, with spices, hand soaps, detergents, etc. but you must bring your own shampoo and shower gel. And you have to do a bit of cleaning when you leave. All of this is no bother as while the house felt priced appropriately going by the listing only, on arrival we felt we got a bargain and would happily stay again even if the rate went up a little. Definitely will check this place out on our next trip to the Big Island.

This home is really nice; great view and kitchen literally has everything you would ever want. The beds are so comfortable and I'm a princess and pea person. Check in and check out was simple. The home is very clean and updated throughout. Jill was great. We had a tropical storm warning during our stay and she texted us with support. it was nothing on our side and very minimal on the Hilo side. Only one con if you are sensitive and want quiet. The home is right on Ali'i Drive. This is a main thoroughfare through Kona. The traffic is quite loud. If you have a lively family, you probably won't care. It is close to everything in Kona so that's the positive side. It may have been busier than usual during our stay, I don't know. Overall, we were very satisfied during our two weeks vacation. We absolutely loved Jill's home! We had an ocean view, loved the pool, the beds were super comfortable, and the kitchen was fully stocked. And the land next door with goats on it (lots of baby goats!), just made it all that much better! :) It was a beautiful, comfortable home, in the perfect area. Jill was super kind and was quick to respond to any questions we had. I would definitely recommend this place and rent it again when we come back to Kailua Kona. I'm already missing waking up to the gorgeous ocean view and pretty sunsets right from the kitchen table!

We (3 siblings + spouses) thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house had everything we needed plus more. We especially enjoyed the pool, loung chairs, tables with umbrellas and lovely landscaping as well as watching the sunset from the end of our private road, or from the many windows from the house. The location was convenient but the road was busy and noisy if the air conditioners/fans weren't running in the bedrooms. One of the air conditioner fans wasn't working properly the 1st night and Jill was wonderful at getting it replaced within hours!

The property is exactly as described. I personally didn’t read about no central AC or pool heat. Having said that, for me, the house could use an AC unit in the main room. It was very cute and clean. Jill was prompt in answering question. Perfect for our family.

This house was an amazing home-away-from-home for my family and friends. We wanted a place to serve as our home base for my husband’s Ironman Kona dream come true and the Hula Hut fit the bill. The Hula Hut is incredibly comfortable and spacious enough for my family staying there and friends who were with us on race day. The house has everything you could possibly want, including every kitchen appliance and a spice cabinet to rival most homes. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how comfortable the beds are! I even made note of the manufacturer for future reference. The pool was a wonderful place to lounge and rest. And just down the private drive were gorgeous sunsets. Our host, Jill was very helpful and responded so quickly to any questions we had, including a request to check in early for my husband who was dragging around a bike and a bunch of other equipment. I know we would love another stay at the Hula Hut!

First of all, this house is owned by the best people! Incredible communication, thorough instructions, and totally approachable about everything. Thank you, Jill! The house is adorable and fully loaded for your personal enjoyment. Yes, it's on Alii Drive, but the A/C in the bedroom covers all street noise while sleeping. There are fans available, too, if you're not using the A/C. I'm a light sleeper and I slept like the dead! The kitchen is FULLY stocked, and the house is extremely comfortable and perfect for everyone to stretch out and enjoy themselves. The pool was our favorite part. I'm a sucker for a good pool, and this one delivers! There is plenty of. seating for all, and during the late afternoon when it's hot out, the pool gets shaded by the beautiful hibiscus and other foliage. But I gotta say, the goats that visited us for a couple of days next door were pretty fun. They were only there for a few days (it's a big open lot next door and they help manage the plant growth), but they were very entertaining, as were the two nice dogs who watched over them. Rent this house. You'll love it. Thank you!!!

The only issue we have encountered with our stay was at the beginning when we were having a difficult time opening the door with the digital lock. I was able to got hold of Jill and she gave me a new lock combination. Otherwise, the location and cleanliness is superb. My husband, friends and I cannot complain of anything else. We were able to walk by the ocean and watch the sunset, take beautiful photos, and walk to the marketplace. We were also comfortable and got to relax after a busy day exploring the island. Thank you!!!

I have rented homes and condos before and this was one of the best homes I have stayed. A spacious living area, big kitchen, bar area and three nice size bedrooms. We stayed with 3 adults and two kids and everyone always had space. The pool is perfect and there are more than enough chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards and snorkeling gear. Seriously you need a couple outfits, bathing suit and toothbrush. The sunsets down at end of block are magical but you can see them from the house too. This place is wonderful and away from crowds. You can tell the owners take wonderful care of this gem. Any questions we had were promptly answered. We will undoubtedly be back!

I cannot say enough about how sweet this house is. Love the open kitchen/bar/living room with all the windows and the view of the ocean. The kitchen has everything you need and more. Having 3 bedrooms and 2 beautiful bathrooms was perfect for us. And the pool— absolutely wonderful! The adorable geckos and singing frogs add even more charm. 🦎 Jill is very helpful and responsive! I hope to return and highly recommend this house.

We spent our vacation with kids and friends and it was so fun. Location of the house is very comfortable as close to the beaches and stores. Wonderful, well maintained and well stocked home. Great location. The interior decorations enhanced the island vibes. The pool was a great reprieve from hot and humid afternoons (ACs are in the bedrooms only). We had a fun trip and will definitely come back. Jill was super helpful at all times.

We had a wonderful time!! Lots of space for everyone, even with a 5 year old. Comfy furniture to watch the Olympic Games on a large tv with great sounds system. The pool was ideal for teaching our grandson to snorkel and there was a perfect beach nearby for his first venture into the ocean. The sunset and tide pools at the end of the road were the cherry on top. We had 2 professionally trained chefs with us and even they were impressed with how great the kitchen was equipped! Beds were comfy and the AC in the bedrooms made sleeping easy. Our host was SUPER responsive & never annoyed with my questions. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Stayed here for a week, and it was excellent! This was our first time in Hawaii, Jill was super informative of how to check in and out. They had an extensive list of things to do on the island which we found very helpful! House was in great condition, very clean, and honestly came fully stocked with anything you could need. Kitchen was fully stocked with the essentials for cooking. Beautiful yard, and pool, which was great for down time with the kids! There are geckos in the house but that was an added bonus for us and the kids! Really great house, awesome host, and even better location! Loved our first experience here in Hawaii!!

We had a terrific time while staying here. The pool was gorgeous and when we weren't busy doing other things we appreciated the down time in the pool. The living area of the house is bigger than the pictures show, it was fantastic. They seriously have anything you'll need at the house for whatever you have planned. Including things like beach umbrellas, tons of towels, etc. Literally nothing was needed, the only thing missing was more time to spend here! Mahalo!

My family and I rented this property for 10 days while staying on the Big Island. It was absolutely perfect for us! Well situated near beaches and shops- it was easy to get around and explore the island yet completely feel away from it all. The house is laid out well- reminding me of beach houses I would rent back in NJ. The kitchen is remodeled and well stocked with everything we needed. The living area is large and open and very relaxing. As others mentioned, there is a very short walk to a rocky beach where you can tide pool (a huge plus for my kids!) and watch the amazing sunsets. The pool in the backyard is a nice bonus but we didn't really use it- we spent most of our time in the ocean. Communication was great from beginning to end and we had no issues at all. Overall, this was one of our favorite places and we will definitely be back during our next trip.

The house was very spacious and the pool was great. The kids loved the pool and the mango tree. The bedrooms were a bit noisy from goats next door and cars on the street. Also there was some construction of a gate out first two days but Jill was very responsive and found a solution that worked for everyone. Lots of lovely beaches very close and several historical parks close by as well. Kitchen was spacious and well stocked.

Hula Hut surpassed our expectations -- the main room that has very large kitchen/dining/sitting area/LR etc. is huge! the pictures on the website don't do it justice. I was so pleased to have such a nice open area with windows all around. We cooked some of our meals and found everything we needed in the well-equipped kitchen, including some good spices up in the cabinet. We did not use the large barbecue but used the very handy small hibachi grill to make some of our meals. The pool is great with several umbrellas you can setup for extra shade, and we really enjoyed the privacy of the pool area. We also used the beach chairs for some of our excursions so that was nice. For sleeping, using the A/C in the bedrooms kept things super quiet for really good sleep. Going down to the end of the street for sunset was also very enjoyable in the evening. I highly recommend this Kona house for your next trip there.
