It was an apartment with all the essentials on a beautiful street in the heart of old town.

Check in was rocky and the lock box needs to be fixed. It took multiple attempts to open and ultimately we had to force it. The patio table was also falling apart and too wobbly to actually eat on (despite our multiple attempts). I would also recommend removing the language about a “complimentary bottle of wine” if you’re not actually going to provide it— not an issue at all, but best to be accurate and consistent in your listing. Lastly, I could have missed this in the listing, but it would have been good to know that there’s no vehicle access to the area.

The host, Maria, was great! Very nice and attentive.

First and foremost, credit where credit is due: the location is indeed lovely and peaceful (aside from the peacocks in the castle’s garden, whose early-morning screeches rival that of roosters). The property is spacious, and for the most part, everything functions as expected. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a member of the staff who kindly showed us around, pointing out the basic areas (such as the bedroom, bathroom, etc.). However, things took a rather frustrating turn when, just two days before our arrival, we were informed of an additional €200 charge on top of the total rental cost. Then, after our departure, we were notified that we were responsible for damaging the toaster cable, a claim which is entirely untrue. It is important to note that we didn’t come to Lisbon to cook, so any use of kitchen appliances was nonexistent. Moreover, no evidence was provided to demonstrate that the toaster cable was in proper working order when we arrived, despite the fact that we were given a brief tour during check-in (it's not standard practice for guests to be shown every cable, outlet, and obscure corner of the property). To top it off, I was penalised €40 for what amounts to a €10 toaster. (For the record, I did take the liberty of googling the toaster’s make and model from the host’s message.) For anyone considering renting this property in the future, be forewarned: there may be unexpected and questionable charges lurking in the background.
