An enjoyable stay in the interior of the walled city of St Malo

The hotel is close to the western ramparts of St Malo. An easy walk to the sailing club and the beach. It is also an easy walk from the outside wall parking location.. The restaurant was excellent both for dinner and breakfast.

Immaculate hotel in perfect location

An immaculately clean hotel with tasteful modern renovations. It is in a brilliant location in the heart of the Intra-Muros district of Saint Malo, and close to the sea. The classy Intra-Muros district has lots of quaint cobbled streets, sophisticated shops and eateries. The hotel staff were polite and helpful. The brasserie food was very good.

Car parking is not available on site, but I think this is the case for all hotels in the Intra-Muros district. We got lucky and found a metered street park. This was a little costly but worked OK for us. If you didn't get lucky with street parking you could have a long-ish walk with your luggage. There is no lift in the hotel but I guess this is par for the course with an old building on a narrow site.

The location is very good and the bedroom was clean.

Interior bedroom, really tiny. The lift wasn't very useful, as it doesn’t stop at the floor itself, it stops about half a floor above or below, which still requires using the stairs. No air conditioning. Personnel at reception desk do not speak English, only French, so communication and requests were difficult.

Very pleasant, convenient and clean room.

It was in the Intramuro area of Saint Malo, convenient for sightseeing, shopping and the beach. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had very good service, were able to leave our bags, and have a taxi arranged for us.

Stairs and the space was a little tight for people our age and girth.

I was robbed. I payed for a Hotel, I got a guest house with scaffolding

Location

I did not like the scaffolding outside our bed room window. It was hot. We didn’t feel that we could open the windows because it was unsafe. It is not a hotel. It is rooms next to a restaurant. There is no reception. There is no room service. We walked up concrete stairs to our room on the second floor. We were provided with a kettle and 2 teabags !!! And there was no fridge!!! As we have milk in our tea…it made our stay unpleasant. And the hotel towels were paper thin.

Wi-Fi didn’t want to work properly consistently - weak signal. I think we should have been told about there being scaffolding and if booked in week when working I wouldn’t have liked it. I felt awkward checking in at restaurant and the check out too - city tax should just be included in amount.

A place to stay on the city walls in Saint Malo

The location of the hotel is excellent, right next to the city walls overlooking the beach and on one of the main squares in the old town. It is also a couple of streets off the main tourist thoroughfares.

The fact that the hotel was undergoing renovation work was not mentioned in its profile, which did take away some of the charm of the visit. There was no working elevator and a bit of a smell from the bathroom when we first entered the room, but this was solved by leaving the window open for a couple of hours.

We had a great stay at this atomspheric old hotel within the walled city

Our room for three was a good size, and had a great view over the public square, Place des Frères Lamennais. We ate in the restaurant one night, which was very good and reasonably priced. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and some spoke English well.

Would not suit people with access needs, as there is no step-free access. Also, the charming but tiny lift stops between floors, so you always need to ascend or descend half a floor by the stairs to get to and from it. The breakfast offer did not include gluten-free bread, or dairy-free milk.

Hotel was nice and clean, looks like a recent revamp and the decor was lovely. TV worked well and had a good range of channels.

Check in was a little difficult as the place was locked. I rang the phone number many time but no one picked up. The staff from the pub next door tried to assist and said it seems to be a common occurrence. I finally managed to enter the premises by following another guest into the building. Very stressful experience.
