The James Rotterdam

We were here for 3 nights and it was a reasonably good hotel stay, good location and comfortable room. In a nutshell, would stay again! Location is good and just a short walk away from the metro. It’s also just right by some malls/shopping area so you can easily get some food/groceries. Very accessible. The hotel entrance is pretty small though, the kind where you could miss if you didn’t look properly. The main length is taken up a carpark/garage shuttle gate and the entrance of the hotel is next to it. You can spot the flag with the hotel name. And carpet on the floor. Hotel staff were pleasant, and we were able to check in earlier as our room was already cleaned. Thumbs up to this as it was a super hot day and it was nice to be able to freshen up in the room before heading out for the day. Water refill stations are available at first and second floor but sadly the first floor machine was out of order and we had to make a trip to the 2nd floor lounge instead. The lounge is super nice and cozy if you had work or stuff on your computer to do. It’s a very co-working space vibe. The room itself is similar to photos. But I would like to mention that the layout of the room is elongated and the bathroom is right behind the entrance door such that you can’t open both doors at the same time. The walking space is limited with this longish shape, and space to use the table/sitting area is also quite small. Since the walk ways are all narrow, there wasn’t really anywhere suitable to open our luggages without blocking the way. We managed as we didn’t have too large bags but can see this as an issue for many. Also, we want to highlight the great service from the staff who provided us with a fan upon request. It was thirty degree weather and the room central aircon just wasn’t doing it for us. I do admit that we get hot and stuffy easier than others but we needed more ventilation and was glad that the staff brought a fan to our room very quickly. The level of housekeeping is okay but could be improved. Just the details. Like for our bathroom shower, the rubber stripe at the bottom of the glass door had sort of come out of place. Which grabbed our attention and looking closer, you could tell the the rubber which was supposed to be white, had brownish sort of mouldy particles on it. I can’t say exactly what but it’s definitely dirty. And one point when bathing, some of that dirty stuff came off and made me panic as I definitely did not want that unknown dirty stuff touching my feet. Luckily I managed to avoid it and flush it away. I think the housekeeping can be more meticulous in cleaning these harder to notice areas.

Amazing hotel in central Rotterdam, close to the main train station, close to metro & lots of restaurants & shopping areas. Well located for travel to other parts of Rotterdam too. Reception staff very friendly & helpful, rooms very clean and cleaning staff friendly & accommodating. I was in a comfort double and the room & bathroom were larger than expected, with a large walk-in shower. Only slight negative was that I could hear the water gushing when the room above flushed, but it was very seldom and this would not sway my recommendation that this is an excellent hotel.

The location is superb.

Staff are nice people. There is no issue with the cleanliness. The main concern is about the gym facility which is very limited. I did not include breakfast during my stay after reading some comments. This needs some improvements in terms of quality, quantity and types of food.
