Extremely stressful stay due to smoke smell and poor communication

Location, if you like going through a tunnel to access the old town. Bath if you like taking a bath while everyone is watching. Blinders switches if you like the switches that are taped over several times to prevent you from putting them in a wrong position accidentally.

We stayed at Room 4 & 5 Apartments in Salzburg (Jan 31 – Feb 3, 2026). Arrival communication was confusing. The WhatsApp location pin led us to the wrong address, and we had to call to find the correct building, which was stressful with children and luggage. The main issue was a strong cigarette smoke smell inside the apartment and in the staircase. The smell was present in the furniture and walls and did not feel temporary. I was traveling with children, and this was a health concern. On Feb 1 in the morning, I reported the issue and asked to stay only the first night and cancel the remaining 2 nights. I was informed that no issue was found and that standard cancellation terms apply. When I managed to reach staff, the conversation felt dismissive. I was told to “go home,” the person laughed during the call, and the phone was ended while I was still trying to explain the situation. This left me feeling unsupported while traveling with children. They also desiced to not do any housekeeping during the stay, I guess because we were unhappy anyway, so why even try. After departure, I received a message presented as a formal notice about an outstanding balance for parking and city tax, mentioning possible legal collection. At that point, I had not been given any payment instructions. I asked how to pay and only then was a link provided. Starting with a collection-style notice before providing a simple payment option felt unnecessarily aggressive. Overall, the experience felt stressful and uncomfortable for a family trip. The cigarette smell in the stairwell and apartment made the stay difficult, especially with children.

Was nice, but could be much better

Well located, has terrasse, our apartments also had lovely and large bath and overall it was warm. The hosts replied quickly, however there was LOT of information/spam coming our way and overall it was not very straight forward. There is dishwasher, fridge, salt&pepper and soap.

The room had strong incense smell, which I personally dislike. We had to ask for the mobility cards twice before receiving them. Parking is paid for reasons unknown (as it is not on street or in parking house), and city tax is also extra on top of booking price. One could hear movement/noises outside in the flat, but I am not sure if it was from staircase or flat next to it and thankfully happened only couple of times during our stay. The towels had slightly musty smell to them.

Decent stay

The location is perfect with the lots of options for parking and walking distance to the old town. The communication from the booking until the end of our stay was perfect, all the necessary information was provided.

The size of the apartment was ok but it needs a small touch for the equipment and the furnitures to provide more comfortable stay for the guests. Some of the kitchen utensils needs renewing.

Besides heating problem everything else was great.

Location is great, quite and close to old center. Everything on walking distance. Apartment was very clean.

Floor heating wasn`t working. Host suggested heaters but this shouldn`t be an option in November in this part of the world. Also, hot shower wasn`t hot anymore after 3rd family member finished showering.

Nice apartment for a couple visiting for a few days. Decent location for walking.

Nice apartment overall. Good location and a 10-15 min walk to old town.

Arrived at night and lighting was poor. Had to use phone light to use keypad. Bed was ok but pillows not so good. Thought washer was located in apartment but is actually a shared machine at a 2 euro cost.

Ok but misleading had with low value for money

We found the listing on Booking.com misleading, as we thought the studio we got was a large one and would leave us plenty of space for a baby bed and room for our baby to play on the ground. We ended up with a small 15-20m2 studio. In reality, the building has 7-10 apartments sharing the 1 pool you see on the apartment page. We had asked for a parking space (15 EUR per night), and yes, you can park in front of the building, but the parking spaces are small and not convenient if occupancy is full, as you may rely on someone else to move to be able to get to your car if 2 cars are parked in their alley. And because this place is all about optimizing their profit, we were told coffee/tea would be provided, and we were given 2 espresso doses + 2 tea bags for 3 nights, so you have to buy extra or bring your own.

Comfortable stay in Salzburg in a nice, quiet area.

It was good to have the use of a shared washing machine and a pool. We unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to use the pool but we did use the washing machine. It was also nice having a small patio area with a table and chairs

We had a microwave and dishes but no area to wash dishes - we wouldn’t wash dishes in the bathroom as this seems very unhygienic. We feel the property could be improved with a shared kitchen area.

Overall, the poor conditions and the small size of the rooms ruined our vacation

location was good

The rooms were shockingly small and absolutely unsuitable for a family of five. The so-called kitchen was tiny, barely functional, and the dishwasher was broken, making it impossible to use in such a cramped space. There was no proper dining area—only high chairs, completely impractical for small children. The beds were uncomfortably soft, and the towels came with visible stains, adding to the overall sense of neglect. It should have been made crystal clear what kind of room was being booked, yet this was not the case. Nor was I advised to upgrade to a room that could actually accommodate a family of five. We had expected to be able to dine and rest in the room, but instead it was extremely uncomfortable and unnecessarily difficult.

We had a wonderful stay here! The property is in a lovely, quiet residential area, just a short 10-minute walk to the heart of Salzburg. The room was a perfect size for two adults, and both the main bed and the sofa sleeper were very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the patio sitting area next to the creek, it was such a peaceful spot to relax. The pool looked fabulous, though we didn’t have the chance to use it. We also really appreciated having access to a washer, which made traveling so much easier.

A couple of minor things to note: the key is quite large to carry around, and with no AC, we made the mistake of leaving the door open one evening, which let in some bugs. That said, the windows and doors all have a convenient tilt feature, which is great for airflow while keeping bugs out. Neither of the minor issues took away from our stay, though.

Misleading photos and description - not good value for money

Clean, easy walk or ride to the old town. We appreciated using the bikes available for guests. The pool seemed nice however the pool deck was off other apartment rooms and not private (for either swimmer or apartment guests).

Our apartment was tiny and did not reflect the amenities listed in booking.com nor the photos (which make the place seem quite spacious). Only 1 pillow per person, luckily we had our own. Only 2 coffee pods provided for the whole stay with extras available at a charge. For the price, would recommend booking somewhere in the old town.

Well located apartment, however not what we were expecting from the photos shown on Booking.com

The location was a short walk from the Old town, and the apartment was clean and had all that was needed for a short stay. Parking turned out well, although even after we had “confirmed” parking months in advance, we still received messages days before suggesting that we should urgently book parking if we required it. The uncertainty was unsettling.

It was very hot during our stay, and there was no air conditioning, only a fan that made a very loud noise when turned on. The main thing that we didn’t like was that the unit was very tiny. We felt it was not what was described/offered/paid for from the photos and description on Booking.com. For example, it listed a “dining table”, but in reality there was a desk in the bedroom (which was needed for luggage space because there was no other option), so we had to sit on the bed when eating. I don’t think it was good value for money, however perhaps other apartments in the apartment block were, just not the room we were allocated.

Great spacious, modern and clean apartment in a quiet location with everything we needed and more

Good private location walking distance to sights. Modern, clean, spacious and well-equipped apartment close to Spar supermarket and transport links. Great shower, dishwasher a bonus and pool looked lovely (wintery weather so didn't venture in).

A heads up about the painters coming early one morning would have been great. Bit of a surprise to see one on a ladder outside our second story window at 8am as I got out of the shower!

We enjoyed our stay in Salzburg but were disappointed in the accommodation

The appartment was clean

The bed was uncomfortable, difficult being an upstairs apartment with no air conditioning. Also there was no mention you would have to pay for the washing machine and share it with the other apartments. A lot of stairs to carry your bags up

Location was a 10min walk to old town & less than 5min to bus stop. Apt. was very nice and clean; quiet residential neighbourhood! Kitchen had microwave, fridge, stove (even tho we didn’t use) utensils & dishwasher. Shower had great pressure and sparkling clean! Best part was the washing machine & dryer for use! (Staff were friendly and quick to respond to questions. Would definitely book again when in Salzburg!

Location is good you could go to the old city by walk It have some appliances. Is a bit clean although I find Cockroach in the stairs

* They asked me for my credit card copy including the code which is not logic and I make tge payment throygh booking and they insist for that. * If you have big heavy language don't accept room 4 as you will carry it up and down. *First night hot water was not working and room was very cold , and no heating control in room 4 *Internet connection for Room 4 is useless is disconnect all the time and uf u are in bed room you can't use it.

Good short stay but the shower/bath wasn’t pleasant

Super massive room with nice design. I booked the room for my parents and they had a good rest in the room.

The bath tub was nice to look at however the water pressure was low (which takes a long time to fill up the tub) and the hot water wasn’t hot enough… There is huge contrast to the body temperature when one get out of the bath… it would be better if there’s another shower option for the cold winter as well. One of the washing basin was stuck as well.
