Jua Retreat Adults Only

Having travelled extensively and experienced some outstanding destinations around the world, I arrived at Jua expecting to be truly exceptional. While it didn't quite reach that level for us, it is nevertheless a beautiful resort with enormous potential. The accommodation, views and peaceful surroundings are stunning, and the housekeeping team deserve particular praise for their attention to detail. Chile and Emmanuel were the standout stars of our stay, combining warmth, humour and genuinely excellent service, while Jamal's personality and the presence of the Maasai security team added to the resort's charm. The team made our wedding anniversary and my 60th birthday celebrations magical. The food was generally very good, especially when viewed within the local context. The chef consistently produced flavourful, well-presented dishes and was accommodating of special requests. However, compared with other international all-inclusive resorts, the dining and drinks options felt somewhat limited, with a repetitive evening menu and a relatively small choice of wines and spirits. A key area where Jua could improve is service delivery. Staff were friendly and clearly eager to please, but service often felt reactive rather than proactive. Guests frequently needed to request things rather than having needs anticipated, and small details such as maintenance of soft furnishings, outdoor cleanliness and timely replenishment of facilities detracted from an otherwise premium experience. We also found the management style of Hassan at times a little overbearing, with frequent check-ins that made it harder to fully relax and enjoy the natural tranquillity of the resort. Finally, we felt the feedback process itself could be improved. Guests are asked to complete written feedback forms and hand them directly to staff, which can make it difficult to provide completely honest opinions. When we returned our form, we were asked to explain ratings that were less than "excellent". Whilst undoubtedly well intentioned, this felt uncomfortable and may discourage candid feedback. Anonymous collection methods, such as a secure comment box or a post-stay email or WhatsApp survey, would likely provide management with more genuine and valuable insights. Overall, Jua offers beautiful accommodation, spectacular scenery and some truly exceptional staff members. With greater attention to detail, a more relaxed service approach and a few operational refinements, it could become a truly outstanding destination.
