Castillo de Añón de Moncayo

Beautiful, stunning castle with a lot of original features. Owner very welcoming on arrival and at breakfast. Breakfast was delicious consisting of tortilla, croissant, cake, homemade jams and bread, fruit and ham and cheese for 12€.

Our fridge was dirty in our room. We were told on arrival that the restaurant was not open, much to my disappointment as I had previously enquired and was told it was open at 8pm. There was absolutely nowhere to go to eat in the town and not easy to navigate through the narrow streets. This along with the 6 hour drive we had just done, we didn’t want to drive back out to buy food. I would advise to come prepared with food to cook as there is a small kitchen with cooking facilities (but no kettle)

Very cool castle! It’s seemed a lot more “ original” than a lot of our other castle stays. Some have been sooo modernized. This places was a mix bag. A bit modern (heating, cooling, indoor plumbing…) but cool huge old doors and steep staircases with rope “handrails”. We love history so enjoyed hearing about the castles interesting history, even though we didn’t understand everything, cause we don’t speak Spanish. We were in the room at the top (3rd floor) of the tower, so lots of stairs. We are in our late 50’s and have a few knee issues, so we didn’t take all our luggage up, …just what we needed for the night stay. We made it ok, but I doubt older people with mobility issues could do all those steep cool OLD stairs. Had dinner there. Wonderful (fish) meal. The chef brought the huge fish out and showed it to us, BEFORE he prepared and cooked it for us. That was cool. Great service, friendly, helpful staff. The view from the top of the tower is fantastic.

The shower was very slippery. Maybe add some non-slip strips or something.

The property is old, a wee bit shabby and eccentric. Set in beautiful countryside

Unfortunately we had a room with a tiny window so it felt very dark Wifi was tricky and signal low which was a problem as we had to complete online passenger location forms etc before departure so that took a long time
