Love, love, loved the staff. Family owned and run. Carlos and Nuno (father and son) were absolutely amazing. Very accessible and tuned in to customer needs. THEY are the reason I loved this place and would return. I felt like I became part of a family for a few days. I felt very safe here as a solo female traveler. Keep in mind this is not a hotel. It is more like a hostel, but I had a private room with a private bath. The staff was absolutely on top of keeping the rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen immaculately cleaned and well ventilated. It was nice in the mornings to wake up, shower, and enter the common rooms and kitchen and find the doors and windows were already open and breakfast already set out and ready to go. There were fans everywhere and even an air purifier in the main room. No cigarette smell at all. Very clean and fresh. Adequate electrical outlets. There is a refrigerator available with a small labeled bin for each room. All guests I encountered during my stay were very respectful and polite. The lodging was quiet and restful with "silent" signs posted throughout. There was a fresh cold water dispenser in the main room for guests to use and it was consistently replenished--was never empty. And I drank a lot of it to stay hydrated. Even the little shower mats are cleaned, dried, and replaced daily for each guest, whether you are using the shared bath or have a private one. The location is also very good. Just down the street is a shopping mall including Pingo Doce. The mall has really good stores, too, such as Mango, Parfois, and Normal. If you have time, I recommend scheduling the following city tour on Booking: "Santarem Sul: Santissimo Miragre, Gothic, Doors of the Sun, sweets" - Antonio will take you around the town and will change the way you experience Santarém - do this and don't miss visiting Jardim Portas do Sol for an amazing overlook of the Tagus River. Had I not taken the tour I would have missed this.

At first, I was bummed there was no cool air-conditioner. But I also was there during a severe heat wave in June. Don't let this discourage you - with the fans, I was surprised how quickly I adapted and was completely comfortable. I slept very well. Also, and perhaps because I am accustomed to an American lifestyle, it seemed strange to me that the butter, eggs, and jams for breakfast were left out of the refrigerator all day. But I ate them and had no problems at all. Also, internet access in my room was difficult. The connection kept dropping. Perhaps it was better in the common areas. I am not sure if wifi is secure enough if you need to access online streaming or video for work, etc. I was able to get a good cell signal without a vodaphone esim card and could therefore send email, text, and WhatsApp ok.

Nothing really. Just be aware the building doesn't have an elevator but most buildings don't anyway.

Hosts were helpful

No elevator and all rooms were three floors up which was difficult for my wife with knee problems and not even great for me at 75 years after having just backpacked 15 km on the Camino
