First time in Honduras, traveling from SAP > La Lima > La Ceiba on my way to Roatán. I originally booked 2 nights at the Río Hotel but stayed 4 and would have stayed longer had I not needed to meet friends on Roatán. Pepe, the owner, communicated well and connected me with Walter, who picked me up in La Ceiba and also drove me to the Roatán ferry. He's a really cool, patient, and kind man. His wife, Mirabelle, shared local cooking tips while preparing meals for groups and other guests, and both of them taught me some new Spanish words. Good people. I hiked in Pico Bonito, swam in the pool, relaxed in the hammocks, bird-watched, and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Another guest showed me the location of a small fruit stand on the way to the park entrance selling bananas and rambutan. Now, after over 2 weeks in Honduras, the Río Hotel has been my favorite Honduran experience so far. I hope to visit again.
Suggestion: The small room could use more hooks, rods, or hangers. With the rain and humidity, drying a towel or wet clothes was difficult with only 1 hook in the bathroom. Separate travel tip: When buying meat at grocery store butcher counters, check the price per pound after it's labeled. At 2 La Colonias and Walmart in La Ceiba, I was overcharged for the price per pound on all 3 occasions. This is not a reflection on the hotel, just a tip for fellow travelers. Also, try to reserve your stay directly. :-)

An amazing home away from home we came for 2 days and stayed for 5. Walter and mirabel are amazing. The rafting on the river was fantastic.
The living area, kitchen, pool and surrounds are fantastic with bird song all day. Incredible hotel.

Beautiful property in the heart of the nature area- great access to birding, hiking, river activities! Wonderful staff and good food!
It is spread out so some of our group was down near river and others up near main lodge. Also rooms varied greatly and so did access to large patio.

The location is incredible, the view from the hotel is fantastic. Walter and Meribel looked after us and were so helpful (despite the language barrier!). Booked a hike through Walter and it was great. There is a kitchen if you want to bring your own food and drink.
Despite what it said on booking.com, there is a restaurant and bar but they were not open (and heard different answers to when they might be), so to get food we had to travel up the road by car to Omega tours every meal. There was nobody else in the hotel, and no staff on site at all, like a ghost town (Walter and Meribel live down the hill and across the road). Basically it's a room in a building and nothing more, but Walter was helpful with anything we needed.
