Wir waren angenehm überrascht, netter Kontakt mit dem Vermieter schon im Vorfeld, Bettwäsche und Handtücher inkl. ist auch keine Selbstverständlichkeit. Die Lage ist gut. Also: alles bestens. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

The apartment has a relatively low cost compared to other places. It's within walking distance to a supermarket and the kitchen is stocked with all appliances to cook your own meals. The neighborhood is very clean and quiet. The owner is a very friendly and accommodating man, I was allowed to stay a bit longer than the normal checkout time because of my train departure time. You can also call him and he will drive you from & to the train station.

This is flat in a normal residential block, rather a 'holiday home'. It is therefore more spacious than most holiday lets: it's the sort of one bed flat a couple could comfortably live in. The location is also excellent with its own parking space, a good supermarket just around the corner, and although it's a very peaceful, residential area, it's only a short (20 minutes uphill) walk into the centre of the town. There is a balcony, which at the time we were there (mid-September) gets sun briefly in the late afternoon. I would imagine in the summer it would get much more afternoon sun. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just the bare minimum you find in many holiday homes), there is a washing machine and very good wifi.

There is very little not to like. However, I should just note that this is flat in a normal residential block, rather than a 'holiday home'. So it comes with all the normal customs of a German residential block, including the two pages of closely typed A4 in the hallway setting out the House Rules. Not that they included anything extraordinary, just the usual stuff about not making a noise before 7 am or after 10 pm. However, it might be that it's property that works a bit better for someone who reads and speaks a bit of German, can say hello to the neighbours etc. Mind you, in general, although Bad Bentheim is great, I think its a place that you only really get the most from if you speak the language - other than in the Castle, most local museums only have information in German (and maybe in Dutch) - the town is well worth a visit, but does not get many English speaking tourists.
