Portside Lodge

Accommodation was excellent. Good sized rooms with independent AC in each bedroom and main living area. Beds firm but spacious and comfortable. Main bedroom had a super king size. Good facilities with everything you need including a large shower and a washing machine. The building feels like it's only a few years old so everything felt modern and in good, clean condition. Balcony is a bit small but still good for sitting out early in the morning and late at night. The street below is a bit noisy but we still enjoyed sitting out. Pool deck is on the roof so you can get a bit of a breeze as a break from the heat if needed as well as an excellent view of the town. Lots of loungers with some shaded as well as a few tables and an indoor sitting area with a toilet and washing facilities. Pool is quite small but perfect for a cooling dip if the heat gets too much. The town is on the quiet side but Valetta is only 20min away by taxi (check Bolt and Uber both for the best rates). Most restaurants close at 11pm and there are only a couple of bars that stay open later. The Asian Market around the corner has all the basics you need and is good value. If you need anything extra or a bit more choice then the Eurospar is about 8min walk away. St Thomas' Bay is approx 15min walk for watersports, sea swimming and sunbathing from the rocky shore or some alternatives for food and drink If you are looking for a tour we really enjoyed Gozo, Comino, Blue Lagoon with Supreme Tours. It leaves from Valetta which we travelled to by bus. We booked it at their office in Valetta on Republic Street for €40 per adult. Staff were on duty at reception all day and night, much like a hotel and were very helpful and friendly. Check out is 10am but we were able to extend it to 1130am for free. Our flight was at 10pm so we opted to pay for an extra day at €50 as our apartment wasn't booked for that night.

Lift is very slow and used by cleaners so can take a long time to get to the pool deck if you're on a lower floor and not able for the stairs. The apartment faced the road so our two lads found it hard to sleep with the noise on the first two nights but we live in a very rural area at home. Earplugs would be a good idea.

We had a very pleasant stay. One of the things we appreciated most was the flexibility of the hotel. Our original room was available upon arrival, and when we realized we needed a larger apartment, the staff helped us upgrade for a reasonable additional charge per night. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating throughout our stay. They kindly granted our request for an extra chair on the balcony, which made our time there even more enjoyable. We also appreciated being able to arrange a later check-out and leave our luggage at reception, which made our departure much more convenient. The apartment was spotless, well-maintained, and equipped with everything needed to prepare our own meals, making it feel comfortable and practical for a longer stay. Overall, we were very satisfied with the service and hospitality and would happily stay here again.
