Stay was perfect!

The whole stay was wonderful!! Massimo welcomed us with a warm heart and a big smile. He gave us advice on the trails near the property, and showed us the hostel. He was always available for any question. The hostel is well maintained and it feels really cozy! The rooms and bathrooms were clean and everything is tidy. I really recommend this hostel for all who travel to hike in Parco Val Grande.

The road to the hostel is very narrow and you need excellent driving skills and a small car. Make sure that you know how to drive backwards, you will need it.

Amazing, like being at home.

Massimo, the host, was very friendly and helpful. He made us feel right at home. The location of the hostel is a dream, with hiking trails immediately outside the village. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It has a real nice mountain hut-vibe.

I would have preferred a double bed for me and my partner, but the bunk beds themselves were comfortable enough.

Great location up the side of a mountain. Perfect starting point for beautiful hikes. We didn’t bring food and the restaurant next door we thought would be open was closed, but that wasn’t a problem because the hostel’s kitchen comes with its own “mini market”. The pantry and fridge(s) are fully stocked for you to use for a delicious meal in return for a donation. The hosts are incredibly friendly and helpful and the overall atmosphere is very inviting and relaxed. Would come again!

Ostello del Parco is the perfect base to set out exploring Val Grande National park. Would go again.

Cicogna is not an easy place to reach, especially on foot. Village "at the end of the world", where road ends and hiking paths start. But oh, is it worth a go. I have stayed in many hostels but Ostello del Parco is special - from the first moment it felt like home. All amenities at your disposal, maps and good advice for hiking routes, fully stocked pantry, homemade bread... The host Massimo is a treasure! Big thanks and sorry I snatched the sunglasses :)

Because of the room size the beds are bunk-beds, so on top of each other. Not an actual problem but just so you know beforehand.

A Hiker's Paradise

Once you get past the winding narrow road - you enter another world. We arrived early, so we parked the car and luckily other hikers suggested we hike to Pogallo. This hike was one of the highlights of our trip. Water falls at every turn, a river you can bathe in and the small village of Pogallo which makes you feel like you will run into Maria singing the "The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music." This is a hostel so it's difficult to give it a regular rating. We reserved a room with two twin beds and a private bathroom. The twin beds were bunk beds. :-) and the private bathroom did not include a shower. There were communal showers. Everything was clean and comfortable (well I'll admit sleeping on a top bunk at the age of 64 was a bit challenging ;-) ) The communal kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal and the owner has set up the kitchen with all snack food you may need. You can pay for it there. You can also eat at the reasonably priced restaurant connected to the hostel.

Massimo is a very welcoming host, and his presence added to us enjoying our stay :) The town is beautiful and we could instantly relax there. There are nice hikes and places to discover in the surroundings. Nice mix of adventure and relax

Great stay at perfect location with superb hosts

We enjoyed our four day stay at Ostello del Parco tremendously. The location is absolutely great for hikes in the surrounding mountains and gorges of national parc Val Grande. And the hosts Massimo and Andrea really do the utmost to make one feel comfortable. They even picked us up from the train station and returned us there as we didn't come by car. There is also a very thougtfully composed stock of groceries and drinks available at the hostel, which can be used in the shared, well equipped kitchen by all guests in exchange for a donation. This is very handy, as Cicogna does not have any shopping opportunities, besides the bar next door which also serves food. There is also a very detailed outdoor map of Val Grande available for sale (and displayed for free) at the hostel. Returning from long walks and then relaxing on the Ostello's terrace with it's lush views was sooo cool!

The host is nice, open and helpful. If you plan to return late from the moutains let him know because there is no connection nowhere near Cicogna and the standard procedure is a call for emergecy. The loop via corona di saso and pogallo is rather unoficial, difficult on the corona, and very slow on descent. The Road to the Cicogna is narrow, for one car in most places.

Een unieke ervaring in de Alpen.

Een bijzondere (maar eenvoudige) hostel, hoog in de Alpenbergen, (breng je eigen eten mee, want een winkel is ver weg) met een bijzonder aardige gastheer. De weg ernaartoe is een kronkelweg met haarspeldbochten, goed geasfalteerd maar lastig met tegenliggers. De hostel is in het dorpje Cicogna, een verlaten Italiaans dorpje, vroeger 700 inwoners, nu nog 27, wat een fantastisch avontuur is om doorheen te lopen. De hostel kijkt uit op meerdere watervallen (het had wel net geregend) en de Alpen aan de overkant zijn in de nacht helemaal donker, zover zit je in de natuur. Het is een prachtig gebied voor wandelaars, meerdere paden staan aangegeven en er zijn ook niet aangegeven paden langs kliffen en over watervallen. Het is prachtig. De laatste avond was het koud buiten en brandde de hout haard in de huiskamer. Naast de hostel is een restaurantje, maar ik heb daar geen gebruik van gemaakt.Het water uit de kraan is drinkbaar en superlekker, ik vermoed een soort bronwater. Voor mij was deze vakantie een unieke ervaring.

De laatste kilometers er naar toe en terug is de weg op sommige stukken maar breed genoeg voor 1 auto. Ik kwam beide keren geen tegenliggers tegen, de in- en uitchecktijden zijn gunstig gekozen, maar er is toch wel aanloop naar het dorpje, dus er is wel kans op tegenliggers.

Un hostel parfait

L'hostel le plus sympa de tout mon voyage en Italie ! Il y a un beau circuit (rando) à faire depuis l'hostel vers la crête, puis vers des gorges très sauvages.

Attention à la route de montagne (comme les autres commentaires le précisent déjà)... c'est vraiment stressant !! En revanche on trouve à se garer assez facilement dans la forêt, à proximité de l'hostel.

Il proprietario signore " Imperatore Maximus " (piccolo scherzo che facevo a lui),era gentilissimo,democrático simpatico con tutti gli ospitti.Il sistema adotatto per lui alla colazione, pranzo,cena era interessante anche originale atendeva a tutti gli ospitti in caso di necessita in cambio di donazione.Se poteva anche chiedere a lui di fare spese al supermercatto,dopo se restituiva quello che aveva compratto su richiesta. Qualque volta di sera lui suonava guitarra,acordeon e cantava belle canzone ,bel ricordo..I sentiere istorici sono belíssimi da fare treccking mi ha piaciuto tantissimo ,le montagne e fiume sono incantevole ! Di sicuro ritornero altre volte Grazie mille al Maximo e il suo equipo Emir ,Nelle e Marco anche loro troppo gentilli e amichevoli, parlano benissimo diversi idiomi . Nostra l' Itália é veramente belíssima !!! Grazie mille a tutti .Buona giornata.Ci sentíamo. Ti saluto Ostello Val Grande!!

Senza dubbio il migliore ostello italiano di sempre

Massimo è il miglior anfitrione e host che io abbia mai avuto. Non parlo solo di ostelli ma anche di bnb, appartamenti, hotel, aparthotel, pensioni, residence, affittacamere ecc.. Sono host anche io ma non avevo mai visto tale livello di dedizione in una cosa. Bene, con Massimo mi sono dovuto ricredere, crede fermamente in quello che fa, accoglie tutti, indistintamente, risolve qualsiasi tipo di problema e, anche se stanco, ti regala sempre un sorriso, uno dei migliori ostelli in cui io sia mai stato. Ci tornerò. Grazie Massimo e grazie Emir, ed un saluto anche al buon Umberto.

Une belle expérience

Une belle surprise, un cadre idyllique et l'hôte Marco vraiment très gentil. A noter que ce n'est pas un hôtel, douches et salles de bain communes, il faut amener sa nourriture mais tout le nécessaire est mis a disposition pour cuisiner et passer un très bon moment. La route est très étroite par endroits mais magnifique.

Très bien équipé pour faire sa cuisine, avec plein d'ingrédients mis à disposition. Salle commune avec grande table conviviale, salon au 1er étage. Grande terrasse exterieure avec tables.

Perso je n'apprécie pas la musique toute la journée dans la salle commune et la terrasse devant : l'environnement appelle le calme !
