Doobaki Hostel

Good location, walkable to historic district and some nice independent shops and cafes nearby. Very good value for money. Has communal areas you can use if you want to relax, meet other travellers or make dinner.

Room was basic and needed renovating/updating.

Breakfast was simple, good start for the day. Cereal and toast with Jam or marmalade. I enjoyed it. I've not had jam on toast for ages. The location was good for the historical sites, market nearby and good transport links.

There are many bus lines that run right outside the hostel so that is convenient. It has been decorated to look fun.

Honestly, I feel like the reviews and rating this place has are quite disingenuous. Perhaps people who rated it highly have never stayed in quality hostels before, or in Korean accomodation in general. The provided "towel" was just a small hand towel; they really shouldn't list it as a feature. There is no lift (fine) and no hand rails on the large concrete steps. The beds were very bouncy. There is no soundproofing whatsoever, and the curtains are the same material as bedsheets, and do nothing to block out any light. The decor is very worn and dated, and the toilet and vanity are extremely low, even by Korean standards. Breakfast was for sugar enthusiasts only - sweet bread and cereals, and giant tubs of iridescent jams. I was glad to leave there.
