Stop Over Shela was honestly one of the highlights of my time in Lamu. From the warm welcome to the genuine hospitality throughout my stay, everything felt effortless and special. The place has such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. It’s peaceful, comfortable, and gives you the perfect feeling of being in Shela rather than simply staying somewhere. The room was clean and comfortable, and the whole place had a really welcoming feel. The staff deserve a special mention—they were incredibly kind, attentive, and accommodating. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and their warmth made the experience even better. And the food was fantastic! Fresh, tasty, and full of flavour. I genuinely looked forward to every meal. I left feeling completely relaxed and very well taken care of. If you’re visiting Lamu and want somewhere with great food, wonderful people, and that authentic Shela charm, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Stop Over Shela. A truly memorable stay. I’ll definitely be back! ❤️🌴

The restaurant is not up to expected level I must mention that I was the only tourist

Since Stopover is the first guesthouse you see when arriving at Shela's seafront from Lamu, my gut instinct was to see where else we could stay, but we could not have imagined a more perfect, relaxing (and very clean) place. Hamid, the manager of Stopover, made us feel very comfortable and safe, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our 2nd floor balcony overlooking the sandy approach to Shela and line of fishing boats and dhows was a bargain itself. Add the mosquito-netted traditional Arabic beds, eager-to-please staff, and delicious fresh fish meals and you have the perfect spot to experience the varied cultures of Lamu island. You can wander around Shela village, walk the beach, or go into nearby Lamu town (for which I highly recommend Ali as a guide to introduce you to Arabic culture through his eyes). It is SAFE, relaxing, romantic and so interesting to experience. The Stopover (Shela location) is the perfect base for your Lamu adventure.

Stop over is one of the first guest houses you notice when arriving in shella situated directly on the oceanfront.It is such a great place! Very nice rooms clean, and beautifully furnished.The staff could not be more welcoming and friendly! Breakfast was decent! The view of the ocean from the guest house was simply mind-blowing!!! For sure the best place to stay in Shella for that price bracket, talking from experience having visited a couple others before which are way inside the village. Will definitely come back here! Highly recommended
