This was my first international solo trip and stay at a hostel so as you can, imagine, it was quite exciting but a little bit scary :-) turns out, there was nothing to be scared about… The hostel is very clean and safe. I spent two nights in an all woman dorm and two nights in a mixed coed dorm. Please note that soap and shampoo, etc. are not provided in the bathrooms. I love the Sandbar and will be back. I celebrated New Year’s, sitting by the rooftop pool and watching fireworks! This turned out to be a trip that I will never forget!

I stayed in the hostel dorm room. Shared bathroom, minimal privacy as advertised. Convenient shelf above bed and storage locker just underneath my bed. Bathroom was close with multiple showers and toilets. Roof top pool access with the bar/restaurant there and on the ground floor as well.

Arrived early on March 28. Spoke to a staff member with long hair and was told check in is at 2pm. This was fine as there was a hang out spot and we could leave our bags to walk around.
At 5 minutes to 2pm, I went up to front desk to ask if we can start the check in procedure and a lady sitting beside the woman with long hair told me "As we mentioned earlier, we wait for housekeeping to let us know when guests can start checking in". This is the first time I spoke to this lady so I have no idea why she seems to think she spoke to me. I let it go coz it could have been an honest mistake and just said thank you, okay. TWO MINUTES LATER, 2 men asked to check in and were processed.
Have to say my interaction with her soured my COMPLETE experience at the Sandbar. Location is really good but excellent customer service is paramount.
Being strict with check in time is absolutely fine but you also need to make sure your staff is efficient that they can ensure people can access their rooms at check in time instead of start the process when check in time starts. Begin checking in people maybe 15 minutes before and then let them know they can enter the room at 2pm. Guests checking in are likely exhausted from a day of travel and would appreciate being able to freshen up as soon as possible.
