Communication and flexibility of the owners was fantastic. Exceptionally clean. Location within walking distance of station. Very large room with communal kitchen area.

We stayed here for 2 nights. It's a house that was converted by a local family into a B&B, so the decor looks very homey. It's a drive from the train station and there aren't rideshares in Hualien, but the family's two sons picked us up when we arrived and even dropped us off at 5 am in the morning since we had to catch an early train back to Taipei. The family made us breakfast and the AC in the room was good (no AC in the hallways or downstairs).
The bed mattresses are hard (this is normal in Taiwan), and the shower soaks everything in the bathroom, including the cheap trashcan and the toilet paper. But overall, it's a nice place to stay and good value.
