This is the perfect place for an immersive experience in the traditional area of Kyoto. The Ryokan is a lovely place which feels very welcoming and comfortable. The staff was incredibly nice, they could speak perfect English and Japanese, but were also very helpful on the top of give good advices.
There was nothing to dislike about this place, even though the temperature was a bit high in the corridor on the 2nd floor. (Which is a normal thing in August in a traditional house)

affordable, excellent location, cozy rooms with traditional japanese furnishing and design
bathroom facilities were shared (though for the price we paid it was to be expected)

The place is clean, tidy and friendly staff
The futon and pillows were uncomfortable for sleeping.
