The Witchery is unique. You feel transported back in time, but with all mod cons. The check in staff were very welcoming & friendly. The restaurant staff were also very welcoming & professional. I felt confident in their ability. The food was delicious. This was our second stay, we stayed in The Turret Room which was amazing.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

Both breakfast and dinner were excellent.
Especially the men's service was the best.
Women are not good enough.
Correspondence of woman of receptionist is not good enough.
Thanks to the staff for carrying our luggage up the steep stairs.

very unusual and just stunning . location superb for the castle .
very beautiful setting , but £600 for 1 night was just a stretch too much for the average person .

it was dramatic in feel and look. at 795 for a night there were things missing ! no option for drink in the room regardless if it was a further costs. cookies half eaten in a jar.
was very poor …
much positive but could be much better ! tv was rubbish , but overall the feel was different due to the atmosphere and building ! I was able to blank out the irritants and focus on the pleasure of being in a time warp of old ! loved it but if you want that kind of money for a night ! step it up … t x

Incredible hotel! Beautiful suite consists of two rooms. Opulent and elegant design without shabiness. Exceptional bathroom with to gothic sinks, big bath, walk-in tropical shower for two people, canopy bed and truly magnificent lighting. Plus Echo for your favorite music.
It would be great if you add umbrellas and a coat hanger.

Myself and my partner stayed in the Armory and we wanted to leave some feedback before we post any reviews online regarding our stay.
I'll start by stating that we enjoyed many things about our stay. The breakfast hamper was fantastic, the staff were extremely friendly, and the general vibe and theme of the room was great and more than exceeded our next expectations.
There was, unfortunately, some severe issues which had a negative impact on our stay:
Bath facilities. We were unable to run a hot bath on our first night - the temperature of the water was mild at best. Additionally, we noticed that the shower head drips continuously, even when other guests are using their showers / baths. Since it drips directly on to your head, this obviously ruins any possibility of enjoying a bath, which was one of the things we most looked forward to.
When we returned from the town on Friday evening, a member of staff had turned the thermostat to it's maximum setting, leading to sweltering heat on our return. This made the room extremely uncomfortable for over an hour, and induced a migraine for my partner, which essentially ruined the rest of our plans for the night. Not to mention the waste of energy, this is unacceptable.
The mattress is extremely uncomfortable and dips in the middle.

the staff were really friendly and the food was great.
I get that it’s gothic but certain parts in the room needed a bit of tlc e.g. ripped lampshades on the inner side - this is not setting ambience this is just not replacing something that has been damaged

The ambience, the querkynes, the location, the staff, the food.. The list is endless
The place is one of the best places we have ever stayed

Wow, what an experience. The first impression, as you enter the room, is staggering. Certainly, an experience somewhere between (what I imagine) straying in a 17th century gentrified townhouse and a Sherlock Holmes movie set.
It was a great experience and one I don't regret, nor am I likely to forget.
We enjoyed the restaurant (breakfast and dinner). Our servers we attentive and very professional and the overall dining experience was not nearly as pretentious as I had imagined. The food was of a good standard, and while not spectacular, the ambience and the service more than made up for it.
The in-room breakfast option was really good and I would strongly recommend this option.
The location of the property cannot be beaten - just bear in mind you are on the Royal Mile, so the hum-drum of the passing tourists adds to the realism of an "early modern cityscape".
As much as I enjoyed the stay, there are some reality checks I wish I had been made aware of. Most notably, this is not a hotel - so don't expect any concierge-type service. This is a restaurant with rooms... not a hotel with a restaurant. Our check-in (4 pm) was underwhelming - we did feel like uninvited guests who were mostly a hindrance to the regular restaurant patrons. It seemed that the passing tourists blocking the entrance for a cheeky photo op were more important to the restaurant staff who were checking us, the paying guests, into the room.
We were offered help with our luggage, but more as an afterthought. The stone spiral staircase leading up to our room (The Rectory), which is in keeping with the period property, is litigation waiting to happen. I would have thought that the staff (restaurant staff) would have shown more care to the guest's arrival than was shown to us.
It's not luxury - it's an experience, so come with that expectation.
I really enjoyed this stay, but in retrospect, it was not worth the money. As stated above, I loved the experience, and I don't regret staying here, but the expense cannot be rationally justified in the same way as a bonafide hotel stay. If you are expecting to be treated like a hotel guest, then you will be disappointed.
One night would be all you need for the experience; three nights is overkill.

Wow it was the perfect place to go to as restriction ease as it was so different and so much fun to stay in a completely different hotel environment. Food was good. We loved breakfast and the waiter was so thoughtful in anticipating what we might need.
Nothing bad to say

No alcohol, which was clearly nothing to do with the establishment
