This was such a fabulous stay - we loved every minute of it.

The highlight of our stay is surprisingly not the penthouse we booked but the breakfast and the amazing service that came with the daily breakfast. We enjoyed three breakfasts at Old Town Chambers, and each time we were blown away by the food, portions, taste, and service provided by the team at the restaurant. They were always accommodating, always polite, and always helpful. The food itself was really great - we loved everything on the menu. Secondly, the location is undoubtedly one of the best in Edinburgh. It's along the Royal Mile, just a few minutes' walk to Edinburgh Castle on one end and a few minutes' walk to Princes Street on the other. The convenience was superb. There are lots of restaurants nearby—Chinese, Italian, English—you're spoilt for choices. Of course, the room deserves special mention. I initially booked the 2-bedroom apartment and upgraded to the 3-bedroom penthouse. The view was amazing from the balcony, the space even more so. There are 3 bathrooms, ideal for a family of 5. The beds are comfortable. The warmers were easily adjustable to fit your preferred temperatures. The whole penthouse was nicely furnished and the washer/dryer combo was simple to use. We loved it so much we were pretty sad to leave. Daily housekeeping was great and the whole unit very very clean.

Certain parts of the unit has old and badly hammered in boards. A board came loose in the kitchen, with lots of long nails attached to it - a safety hazard, but I managed to fix it back. There is also a battered board above the dryer which does not look great - it looks badly fitted. There isn't enough lighting at night - kitchen and living area can be pretty dim. You have to lug your bags about - the penthouse and other rooms are designed in such a way that they're in separate buildings, away from the main lobby. You'll need to lug your bags across to the other buildings before you can get into the lifts (all lifts are very small, very cramped) to reach your room. But these are small things. The hotel itself is amazing, and worth the experience.

Private gate was broken and access door was constantly left ajar. TV didn’t work, cupboards misaligned in room with bubbled floor and damaged skirting. Very expensive and no better than a Premier Inn.

Hotel is excellent! Wonderful central location to Old Town, super tasty sit down breakfast options & frankly our room we could have probably moved into permanently. Housekeeping was top notch & when we had an issue with the heat the front desk respond immediately.

We had to take two elevators and multiple sets of small stairs to get to our room - it was a bit of a maze getting there. Everything was truly outstanding!

Enjoyable stay - but room for improvement

Nice room, perfect for our small family. Check in staff were nice. Breakfast was tasty and well presented. Breakfast staff friendly. Appreciated staff bringing our takeaway food to room.

The noise at night was terrible - we had a bad sleep. Could night porters not keep an eye on drunk people using the stairs? 3 bottles of water for 4 of us Not asked at check out if we enjoyed stay Shower hot water luke warm - not great We waited to be seated, then took around 40 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. Not ideal with young kids.

Nice comfy stay but not value for money

Great location

Not worth the money we paid - just shy of £900 for 2 nights no breakfast Room described as “city view” our view was of a wall and some steps on a very loud walk way. Room was also described as two bedroom, separate living room but we were given 1 separate bedroom and a bed in the living room. For the cost it was not what we expected- however after speaking to reception we were moved to a bigger more suited room which was lovely but also has a view of a wall not “city” still not worth just shy of £900

1. There were no slippers on the first day of our arrival, I had to ask for them. And on the second day, the housekeeper didn't put new bottle waters in our room, I had to ask for it too. The staff responded in time, and I got what I need. But these things are supposed to be prepared in advance. 2. This is an apartment hotel, but facilities are not good. The fan in the kitchen didn't work, I reported to the staff, but they couldn't do anything. So we couldn't cook anything that would produce smoke like steak. 3. Litter bin in the bedroom was not cleaned. 4. I have to take 2 lifts to go to my room, have to cross outside court to take the second one, very complex and inconvienient

My room was several stairwells, a courtyard and a few elevators from the front desk. I tried to call down for assistance with my luggage when I was checking out and could not get through. It is not an easy property to maneuver and luggage assistance should be readily available. Also, our two bedroom suite did not provide a plug for the hairdryer anywhere near the bathroom or a mirror. We had to dry our hair over the kitchen table. That was not acceptable.

We reserved 2 units - 3 bedroom for son & family and 1 bedroom for my husband and me. The 3 bedroom apartment was amazing and worked out perfectly for 2 adults and 3 young children. Our room/suite was also great for the 2 of us - everything we needed - mini fridge, dishes, cutlery, coffee maker, etc. Location is great - close to tons of restaurants, shopping, Edinburgh Castle and other tourist attractions. Checking in was a breeze; Ian at reception was fantastic - took our bags to our unit while we were waiting for rest of the family to check in.

Overall, a very pleasant day. The front desk was not helpful when needed.

The dishwasher and the kitchen facilities were very helpful, as well as the washer/dryer. The location is very good. The breakfast was very good.

It should have a microwave, as most people who say there are probably tourists who bring in leftover food from restaurants that could be heated in the microwave. One thing that does bother me is that the safe was locked when I first checked in, left that way by the previous resident. I asked the front desk three times in the first three days, and I also asked housekeeping, to open it. I was ignored and no one ever even got back to me. I mentioned it the last day as I was checking out, apparently to the Supervisor at the front desk, who told me that the key was there to open it all along. It’s hard to describe this behavior as anything but rude.

Lovely room in a fabulous location.

Fabulous location on the Royal Mile. The room had everything we needed and was clean and surprisingly quiet given the location.

We booked a room for 3 adults with a sofa bed. We had to fold the sofa bed out and find the bedding that was in an IKEA bag in the laundry cupboard. The sofa bed was broken and a bit difficult to fold out. For the price we paid for the room, I thought this may have been done for us.
