Casa Piñeiro

Everything! The location is sublime and Juan and Flor are wonderful, full of useful information and tremendous care and attention to detail for their guests. The breakfasts were delicious too. And, we had a private balcony to watch the solar eclipse from.

The only thing was the bed in our room was very soft which is bad for my back. However, for others who like soft beds, it would be perfect!

Flor, Juan and Patricia are incredible hosts. We booked it because my maiden name is Piñeiro and my grandfather was from a nearby village. I wanted our family to experience staying on a Galician farmhouse.

How the GPS sends you on back roads with very sharp turns not suitable for a Mercedes van.

El trato ha sido excepcional. Nos han tratado con muchísimo cariño, como si fuéramos de la familia. Ha sido un placer conocer a los dueños. Añadieron tantísimo a nuestra experiencia. Nos recomendaron rutas, pueblos y restaurantes. De verdad que son un amor. Y la casita que tienen…nunca he visto una casa tan bonita con tanto encanto. 10 de 10.

The best part of our stay at Casa Pineiro was the incredible view across the gardens and out into the national park. The house itself is also very charming with some beautiful old features.

Although on Booking.com it clearly says there is a shared kitchen, the host was not happy about us using it to cook a simple dinner for ourselves. When we used it the second time, we were told that we would not be allowed to use it again. The host used 'covid' as the reason but this did not make sense when the kitchen was used as a shared space for breakfast in the mornings. We were very disappointed by this because being in the middle of the national park meant that we had to drive quite far every evening to get dinner, and as someone with a gluten and dairy intolerance, it's important to have space to make my own food occasionally. I also need to note that although Booking.com says the host speaks English, this is not the case. I would not normally complain about this as we were the ones travelling in their country, but what we really struggled with was the fact that the hosts made zero effort to try to communicate with us. They spoke to us in rapid Spanish, even when it was clear we didn't understand. As experienced hosts, I would expect them to at least try to communicate - Google Translate is a free tool, and charades is always worth a shot! We tried our best with both those but felt that it was never reciprocated. Overall, it is a beautiful guesthouse and perhaps it would suit other travellers but it did not work for us. We left 1 night early.
