Gladheimar Cottages

The owner is awesome. Really friendly. Cottages are beautiful.

There was a language barrier, however that goes both ways. I used google translate. The owner was really receptive. Not really a criticism.

Facilities and easy access locations

Reception wasn’t clearly identified among other buildings.

Handy for the main road and access to F35.

Half the site under construction with new cabins, no shower, not as good as other cabin places we used in Iceland. Noisy being near route 1.

Location suited our route around Iceland There was an N1 petrol station just over the road which had a burger and pizza restaurant within and a mini mart.

We were in unit 13, unlucky for us. No one on reception when we arrived, approx 8.15pm so called the number on reception door and received instructions ( unit number and key location). Unit was a bit tired, stained cushions around the lounge seating. Bathroom door bottom was swollen and we worked out why after using the shower as water escapes. No guest intruction book, got the WiFi info off the back of the router. Basic information on the wall about hot tub cleanliness but nothing about how to fill it and turn it on. Didn't matter as it smelled as though it hadn't been cleaned for a while ( not the eggy water smell in Iceland) and our kids refused to go near it. Two punch holes in one of the bedroom sliding doors One roller blind broken and couldn't be used in another bedroom. Blinds didnt fit windows so large gaps for light and people out side to look in. No instructions on how to use sauna, with a huge amount of pipes and valves on the wall next to the toilet, we weren't going to guess. Long hair on pillow, and creased sheets makes you wonder if the bedding had been changed. Messaged owners, no response. Can't comment on the other units. Maybe ask which unit you have been allocated in advance and ask for details/issues. Kids said it was the worst place we had stayed in, on our entire trip around Iceland and we had stayed in 11 at the time of writing this. I'd suggest driving passed.
