Central position. Excellent restaurant. Good breakfast. Comfy beds.
Toilet and bathroom opposite ends of bedroom .

Extremely limited choices for dietary issues for breakfast.

Historic nature of building; rooms good size; all clean and neat; breakfast great, on wonderful balcony. Location central for Poitiers attractions; once you survive the hill up from the station! Fairly quiet at night.
Most helpful staff, eg helping with bags, but spoke little English (might be a problem for some). Very close to bus routes eg to Futoroscope.
Fantastic restaurant within hotel - MUST BOOK!
Bedroom chair a bit worn; slight step in corridor (but is signed); strange tap at basin (got used to it)

Perfectly situated on the edge of the old town. Cleverly designed to fit inside an old church.
The peculiar french attitude to signage! Our room - 202 - was approached by going down a corridor clearly marked "Rooms 1-8" and then accessing a lift for which there was NO sign. Breakfast was conveniently served in a small salle a manger on our floor - but this was hidden behind a door on which there was NO sign at all. The only reason we knew it must be there was because a sign in the lift (at the other end of the corridor) DID say it was on the same floor!

The location and friendliness of all staff. The hotel was beautiful and well placed in Poitiers. Near shops, train station, good range of restaurants and bars.
During s period of heatwave all over Europe including France. Daily temperatures of 40°C ++ the air conditioning in the bed room was limited by the hotel to a minimum of 22°C and the fan speed was not adjustable. I can only assume this was a cost cutting measure. Also the hotel breakfast area was excruciatingly hot and the tiny fan pointed at the tables was completely ineffective. The hotel (a former church) had ibvious Air Con ducts all through walls and breakfast and reception areas, but in my view it was not being used properly or willingly adjusted to make the hotel comfortable. Why!? This hotel was not cheap and as such I would expect the ability for customers to be able to stay in a cool and adjustable environment. I know it was possible to ask re this, or "complain", but as a non French speaker I was reluctant and frankly i don't see why I should have had to!? The hotel was hot uncomfortable and frankly it shouldn't have been.

Really interesting building in a fantastic location. Our room was very pleasant and well equipped. The restaurant is superb and at lunchtime, an absolute bargain for the quality. And, unusually for France, very vegetarian friendly.
Worth mentioning in particular are the staff. The welcome was superb - we arrived early and the receptionist went to see if there as a room ready we could have, which there was.
And in the restaurant too, the service was exemplary.
I would definitely return. Oh, and Poitiers is beautiful, compact city to walk around.
The hotel doesn't have parking but we parked in QPark Cordelier, which is about a 5 minute walk away and very easy to find. And, booking ahead, on the QPark website, it only cost €15,00 for 24 hours. So, all in all, not an issue at all.

Small water boiler and coffee machine in room. Tea bags, coffee capsules, 1L water provided and refilled every day. Exceptional experience staying in a converted church. Staff very friendly. Rooms are quiet, windows can be opened. Very good restaurant and bar. Bus nearby, train station within walking distance.
Only 1 shelve in the "closet". There would be room for 1-2 more. A bit more storage space around the sink in the bathroom - maybe hooks/small shelves.

Architecture, internal design , spaciousness, ambience, sense of history updated to high standards of modern comfort .Reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Spacious bedroom and bathroom- very comfortable bed.
The shower tray was very , very slippery- we were forced to put the bath mat in there to avoid falling - must have been a nightmare for the chambermaid to sort out. The restaurant was overpriced and over formal- lots of waiters running hither and thither but none asked if we wanted an aperitif and one or two subsequent requests were forgotten. The food was good but by no means outstanding. A case of style over substance! As for breakfast at 18 euros? We ate at a cafe round the corner and spied other Mercury guests doing the same, for 8 euros..And no proper TEA in the bedroom.

The location is nice, easily reachable and close to the centre. The central area is nice with all the parts of the old church.
I booked a standard room for one night thinking about the nice environment, however upon arrival it seems that standard rooms are not in the church but in what is basically a normal building repurposed for rooms. I had room number 5, and it was not even close to what I expected: the room felt as if the ceiling was pushing down on me (it was a quite low, non-covered concrete ceiling), the open bathroom was at the end of the room with some 1960s style step to get to it, and a curtain to close it off from the bed area (which was not aligned with the step, so it was draped over the step). The only window in the room was the one in the bathroom, located at the end of the room and which barely let any light into the room. For the price of 140 euro (without breakfast) I was very disappointed.

Very helpful front desk staff and friendly. Quirky clever design of room. Location excellent. Really nice being able to park outside the front door on arrival before going after dinner to park the car.
The room was disappointing. From the photos I thought we were going to get a larger, more airy room, it was more like a monk's cell, but I was fascinated by the way it had been designed which was clever! The bed had a plastic sheet on the mattress, so it was very hot and sweaty and not very comfortable as a result. I didn't feel like the room was very clean. There was a lot of dust on the ledge above the bed. The paintwork was dirty and clearly needs re-painting. The loo seat has turned pink (was white!). The carpets feel dirty - feel like they need shampooing or replacing. Our waiter in the restaurant at dinner was manic! He talked to us at 100 miles an hour, rushed around like a maniac and brought the pudding menu while my husband was still eating his main course - seemed like he was quite keen to move us on! Not ideal!
