A lovely stay in a very well presented and comfortable hotel with helpful staff.
My room was beautifully presented, well equipped, and very comfortable. It was very cold when I arrived, and the lighting over the control panel is very dim so, I did not successfully turn on the heating, until a friend shone a torch on the instructions later. Having only managed to warm the room late in the evening, it became uncomfortably hot during the night - even though I had turned the heating down.
I think the lighting in the entrance to the room is a little too dim. For a single night stay, a single room was fine. However, space would have been a little too restrictive for a longer stay, especially if I was working from the room.
The evening meal was delicious and good information and choices were available regarding special diets. The staff were excellent. I might have had breakfast, but felt that the cost was too steep for anyone who would normally choose just a coffee and a couple of slices of toast. I declined breakfast and settled for coffee only.
It is difficult to comment on comment on 'how safe the area is'. From the nearest carpark, we had to pass two graveyards. There was something a bit creepy about them, although I appreciate that is a highly subjective personal observation and not something that can be changed! I would probably want to park in the hotel carpark, rather than nearby, if I was arriving on my own late on a winter's evening.
The heating as described above
The lighting above the heating control panel was too dim to read the heating instructions and identify the symbols clearly. It required a torch, as described above.
For someone wanting a light breakfast, the price was not good value.

After a couple of hiccups, I enjoyed my stay. The hotel was very busy with Christmas parties, but these were managed ver
Excellent location. Beautifully appointed rooms.
Unfortunately, on the night of my stay , I felt that the hotel did not have enough staff on duty to cope with the number of check-ins and Christmas parties that were in progress. I had a problem with both flickering lighting in my room and the heating wasn’t working. I was first told that there were no other rooms available as the hotel was at full occupancy but on my second request, I was moved to another room which was excellent. The member of staff at provided excellent service but he was somewhat overwhelmed. The lady from housekeeping who helped me move to another room and then brought me a separate plug-in heater to warm up my room quickly, was wonderfully helpful and proactive.

Pleasant but wouldn’t stay again as very overpriced
Clean room, large bathroom with quality products, central location and friendly staff
Very small room and small breakfast for the price paid. The pop up plug was broken so the bath would fill with water when using the shower

All lovely and clean, close to town

Lovely hotel
The hotel was beautiful.
The bedroom was very quirky.
The reception staff on departure were lovely, and the restaurant staff in the evening were great.
There are only a handful of parking spaces outside the hotel, which I hadn't realised, and having driven a long way, it was disappointing; however, there is a paid car park around the corner.
The reception staff seemed too busy when I arrived to deal with me properly, so, all in all, the welcome to the hotel didn't live up to the hotel's overall standard.

Great location, nice pool, lovely products, really nice, friendly staff.
Some things could be a little cleaner for the Hotel du Vin brand.

Great from start to finish.
A lovely break away for myself and partner, staff very friendly and attentive, the Deluxe room was spacious and very comfortable. A 5 minute walk to city centre and Xmas market. Champagne cocktails at happy hour, very nice. Breakfast delicious, Eggs Benedict for her, Traditional for me. Plenty of other things available, again staff very very attentive and friendly. All in all, a lovely time.

Not great won’t be staying again
The property was nicely located easy to get too.
We had a Deluxe double room and paid extra for a large double bed , upon arrival there was 2 single beds pushed together to make a double , we didn’t feel like this is what we paid for, the staff did change our room to include a double bed , but the second room was super dark and dingy and really dusty and not very clean for a four star hotel this was very disappointing.

Nice hotel but maybe best to eat elsewhere.
Very nice hotel in good location. Parking is limited to about a dozen spaces so be sure to book in advance if you need one.
The restaurant staff during evening meal were pretty inept. When a waiter at the Hotel du Vin hasn’t been trained to serve a bottle of wine that’s not a good start. But when the waiter collected two starter plates and then dropped them (scallop and prawn juices splatted) and then doesn’t bother to wipe the mess up. I could hardly believe my eyes. He just picked up the prawn shell and then he, and others, walked through the liquid remains for the rest of the evening.

Great location in Exeter and a pleasant experience
Interesting building and excellent location.
Rooms attempt to be funky, but as a converted hospital it feels like an institution. The front desk was under-staffed in the morning with people waiting for 10 mins. In the end I just walked out.

Overall a good stay, not sure I would return.
Excellent breakfast but very expensive. Room well equipped but small. The bed was comfortable and of a good size. Restaurant was comfortable, well staffed, reception desk we found friendly and well organised staff.

This should have been a lovely stay, but it didn’t live up to expectations
All the hotel and restaurant Staff are lovely and the room was well decorated, public areas are comfortable and stylish
Air conditioning in the room was very weak and I woke up feeling stuffy and headachy.
The restaurant was mostly good, though pricey, but the wagu beef burger was very very salty
Parking is very limited and expensive if you manage to get a spot (£20), which I didn’t. So a big faff parking and re parking the car
The room seemed expensive and I paid £10 more for a tiny upgrade

Beautiful Deluxe room and amazing building.
Bed very comfortable.
Breakfast was very good and great setting for our meal. Staff very helpful.
Bathroom in room had a strong eggy smell throughout our stay and in the shower which wasn’t very pleasant.

Lovely hotel. Please don’t change!
Everything; room has all you could need, lovely touches, fantastic bedding, nice toiletries, staff great, cocktails fab
This is our go to hotel in Exeter and we keep coming back
I asked for a quiet room and it was, on floor 3, deluxe and very nice, equivalent room on the floor below is what I will try for next time as top floor rooms are in the eaves so slightly awkward shape etc. no drama though!

It’s consistently good. Better to rebook parking there as Idid as it’s limited
It’s an old Eye hospital. Historic. High ceilings. I had a cosy room. Just what I needed. Nice bathroom. Lots of towels and tea facilities. I could open a window.
Nothing really. I have never used the bar but it seemed pleasant. The dining area is good and the food and service are excellent. I used the spa facilities / pool with a friend and that was fantastic.

OK -
breakfast
room -lighting poor
green light in lobby area lit up the mirror at night - room like daylight. Management covered it for the third night stay
area not obvious to take kettle and other "plug-ins" because it was covered over by information sheet
found an e-mail after I arrived home describing the hotel's facilities - should have been clearly displayed in room, or on a leaflet in the room
shower facilities did not appear to be working properly
one hard plastic chair in room - something more comfortable like an upholstered dining chair and a second chair/stool - the room is a double

Very good
Property is great, and location perfect.
The only painful item to discuss are the slamming doors. If there was a way to adjust them so that they don’t slam so heavily the stay would be perfect. It is also important that guests are told at check in time, that they MUST accompany the door when they close it very early or very late at night. I was disturbed around midnight and again from around 6 onwards. If you are on holiday you really don’t want to be woken up at those times by very loud noise.
