Shower tray was blocked initially, shower was tricky to operate.

Staff we're very friendly and welcoming
Shower cubicle was tiny, water spraying out of tube, water was cold, only hot for a second. i have no hair, partner is blonde, yet long black hair all over the shower and bathroom, signifies not clean. Once shower was off it constantly dripped and loudly

Rooms were nice, bed comfy, didn’t use the bar or food
Massively overcrowded and busy (after a football game) Lots of smashed glass around, massively daunting pulling into the car park which was crowded with people and smashed glass around.

The room looked like a hostel room and the overall interior was dirty and unkept.

We were given the room key, went to room, then told we were in the wrong room, given the room with wheelchair access which is fine even though we didn't need it, being a room for wheelchair users it had a massive walk in shower, no instructions on how to use it, and if you turn the dial the wrong way water sprays out sideways across the bathroom with that much power it wets the opposite walls, once we'd worked that out there was no hot water 👍, the only other issue was we weren't given instructions on how to get back into the hotel when we got back late, the entrance was shuttered up, with a phone number to call the night manager, which we didn't need to do as there was another door round the side of the building, all very confusing when you've had a few drinks and think you're locked out of the hotel, it's cheap for a reason I guess.

My stay at the Royal George Hotel was extremely worrying and completely unacceptable from a health and hygiene perspective. During the night, I was repeatedly bitten by bed bugs. I have photos of the bites on my neck, arms, and legs. It was impossible to sleep, and I woke up throughout the night itching and uncomfortable. The room itself was in very poor condition: dirty surfaces, crumbs on the carpet, stained furniture, and visible water damage on the ceiling. The bathroom fan was clogged with dust and could not be turned off, meaning there was loud noise all night. Overall, the room felt unclean and not properly maintained.
I reported the situation immediately, but the hotel was unable to provide a safe alternative room. I had no choice but to leave early and book another hotel at my own expense for my own health and safety. When reported, the hotel manager was repeatedly “unavailable” when Booking tried to contact them.
Booking tried to reach them several times but got no cooperation, and despite my numerous attempts to contact Booking via chat and phone over several days, Booking failed to resolve the issue or support me in any meaningful way. They offered only £11 wallet credit, and provided no real support or resolution, despite the clear health and safety risks. As of today, no refunds have been received.
Both the property and Booking.com handled this situation extremely poorly. I strongly advise avoiding this hotel and to be aware that Booking may offer very little help when something goes seriously wrong.

Unfortunately the room was extremely cold throughout the night, to the point that I had to sleep fully dressed to stay warm. The heating was either not working properly or insufficient for the room size. It made the stay uncomfortable and I did not sleep well. Despite this issue, I decided to give the hotel another chance and booked a second stay here shortly afterwards. Unfortunately, the second stay was far worse due to very serious hygiene and health concerns, which I will describe in my separate review.

For me the location was ok for the day arrived.
I had booked this hotel as I was going to the NEC on the Friday. There was a small car park which needed at good sweep. The room was supposed to be soundproof but I heard the person next door blow their nose and a loud woman in the street as she got drunk she got louder .But the icing on the cake was the bed bugs .I found one and killed it then 2 more then a fourth appeared later which I killed. So I didn't sleep all night .On the Friday morning I decided to cut my loses and leave.I am a pensioner and saved up for this break and to go to the NEC to see the classic car show. So now I will have to save up and go next but not stay at this hotel. While I was awake on the Thursday night I found 2 review sites when with good reviews which I saw before I booked then another with people complaining about bed bugs. I am attaching photo of number 4 bed bug before I killed it.

This hotel is in de bar, so there was always noisy. The room was not in the best condition, toilets were also bad flushing. My key always didn’t work, needed go to the staff and ask for help, but the staff were always friendly 👍

Clean comfortable room, pleasant staff, fun pub
I would have given a better rating if it wasn’t for the bed bug bites that both my boyfriend and I got - this is very unfortunate because everything else was good

Parking. Sizeable, comfy room. Staff were all incredibly friendly.
My own fault for not realising there was a match on- the hotel literally backs on to the stadium so roads were gridlocked getting there. You check -in in the very noisy busy pub because of the match. HOWEVER the noise didn't affect me in my room and died down by about 8 pm. There was an extractor fan in the bathroom that kept going all the time so that was the only thing other than things outside of the control of the pub that could have been better for me.

Friendly staff. Clean and functional room.
Couldn't find the car park, turned out to be behind a roller shutter which was shut and was full anyway. Keycard swiping machine was broken, so I had to be let into my room with a staff master card.

Value, convenience to public transport link (bus) to city centre.
The general ambiance of the property was not the best and it was badly in need of renovation, however whilst the communal areas were not overly clean the bedding was all fresh.

Room was a good size, ideal for a single traveller. Bed was comfortable, shower was good. Location was really good, close to the city centre and with good transport links nearby. Bar on the ground floor was ideal to relax and get a drink in, or order breakfast from. If you are wanting breakfast at this hotel you have to pre-order it when you check in so that the staff have plenty of notice to arrange breakfast for you. Booking.com didn't give me the option to include breakfast with my room booking here. Staff are very nice here as well.
There wasn't much not to like at this hotel. Its a basic hotel with a bar. Yes it probably could do with a bit of modernisation and a lick of paint, but that didn't bother me as I was travelling on business and looking for a low-cost hotel room in a good location in Birmingham. Somewhere that provided a comfortable bed and good shower.

Nothing
Extreme small room, coffee table extremely small, room refurbishment under minimum decent standard, with holes in the walls, skirting popping out, the shower was so dirty, you couldn't see trough a "transparent" shower screen, cracked shower tray and hair from the previous user, cracked mirror, broken sash window the personnel very rude, the manager tried to say I broke the window, when that window frame edge was full of mould, sign that was not closed for years. Corridors carped so dirty, the entire hotel cleaning is below zero. I asked for a cancellation and money back and they said the shower was clean enough! What? I do not recommend this hotel. Horror.

Superbly friendly staff, place was very clean and breakfast was excellent and served by a friendly, courteous, helpful lady.
There is the odd place that is showing signs of it's age and could do with a refresh but not a major problem.

Nothing
Above a pub, rooms where small and cramped, the room was dirty, lights didn’t work, bathroom stinking dirty, massive burn on the bedside table, was like a drug den if completely honest asked for room to be cleaned and lights fixed multiple times over the stay just got ignored by staff
8.0 / 10.0
Room was good size and clean. Staff and locals were friendly and breakfast was good. Would book again if we ever come back to Birmingham.
There were some areas that could do with repair, like the ladies toilet.
7.0 / 10.0
Comfortable room and the lift was a bonus
Arrived at 7pm to find I couldn’t park in carpark as roads were closed due to a nearby football match. Had to park a few roads away.
I had intended to arrive early but got caught up in M5 hassles for 4 hours.
The bar/reception area was packed solid with football fans and it took a long time to attract attention to get checked in. The staff were then very friendly and kind, but it was not very restful.
It was a very noisy location in the morning too, with people standing outside talking loudly and smoking.
The football match caused most of the issues which is obviously not the fault of the hotel, but a note on the booking site of the potential for such a level of disruption would have been useful.
(If such an advice note was on the site I didn’t see it)
